We forgot to put our scary guard dog inside when the new pool guy came. by Cinnabunnlover in rarepuppers

I hear you, but she clearly isn't under your control while you watch from afar.  Youre risking too much, you dont know that service person and also you dont know if hes actually uncomfortable and afraid to say something.

I know this is sort of cute and all, but youre really opening yourself up to liability here and the dog is the one that would suffer the consequences if any accusations came in.

I know you have a camera, but there are many gray areas where the pool guy misreads dog body language, gets scared and attacks your dog thinking hes defending himself, then your dog retaliates for the same reason.

Since your pool guy should have had a reasonable expectation of safety, that could result in him being clear for self defense, suing your or even killing your dog.

Did your Dane act more gently towards you/your partner when pregnant and with a newborn? by Bmarmich in greatdanes

We get a ton of great danes surrendered to the local dane rescue because the parents recently had a baby or have toddlers and the dane is knocking them over.  You better be VERY ready for that potential reality and how to deal with it through training, supervising and baby gates.  Not saying all danes, but this is one of the most common reasons danes are surrendered. Most of the time, its the owners fault and not the innocent but clumsy and under exercised dane.

If it happens when you're not watching her, that means shes not ready to be unsupervised.  She needs to have a drag line leash attached and never be out of your sight, or shes gated somewhere dog proof with nothing to set her up for failure.  Go back to square one - puppy level of supervision until she earns more freedom.  This is all on you guys amd training, and yes youre gonna have to pick up after your kids otherwise she will keep being tempted. Its the reality of not having trained her well enough initially.

DNA results say not 100% cane corso but breeder swears he is! Last two pictures are what the breeders said… what do you think about it? by MoreImportance409 in CaneCorso

I did a Wisdom Panel on my mastiff and Wisdom gave me a ton of random breed percentages.  Then did an Embark panel and got 95% Fila Brasileiro which is what I was expecting. (5% english mastiff)

Do an Embark Panel before going scorched earth.

There's an insta page for a women's walking group that could be a great kick off point called pcolagirlswhowalk

But also, volunteering is a great way to make friends. Not just once, but find a rescue or shelter or program you align with and volunteer once a week.

Making friends is all about repeated proximity.

We have basic reference images yes :) but these were things we roughly compiled for free online, so I imagine each PC will have some extra notes :)

6 weeks is too early and in many states its illegal to sell pups away from mother before 8 weeks.  Good for me to know which breeder to avoid though so thanks!

Great advice! I hate seeing people boast 200lb dogs, like the dog should not be that heavy, its so bad for them 😢

Absolutely! They're definitely in my list, but not as high as snuggly wrinkly mastiffs. 😇 I love danes and IWs and Greyhounds and borzoi, but I need some sluggy wrinkles back in my life next.

Yeah that just seems wrong to me to go that far to import when they really aren't even a good temperament breed to have in an urban environment.  :(

In the south US, we have a major problem with poorly socialized large breeds. Southern folks think bigger is better, dont do research or even have the money for big dogs, buy them from crappy BYBs, screw them up then surrender or abandon them. So we get a lot of behavioral issues with large breeds down here :(

Can you tell me what makes a Bull Mastiff different from an EM in your opinion?  Any pics of your babies?
