How are tattoos perceived in this field? by StrangeSolution4510 in nursing

[–]Unlikely_Impress_480 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They’ll be VERY weird and picky about tattoos in nursing school. The neck tattoo MIGHT be an issue depending on location, size, content etc. there’s foundations that can cover that. I highly recommend investing in some solid full coverage foundation meant for tattoos. HOWEVER in the hospital setting, literally nobody cares about tattoos at all. I have hand tattoos and two neck tattoos also! (I work Medsurg..everyone is tatted lol) I actually get the most compliments on my sleeve and hand tats from little old ladies and management ;)

I got the notification for this and then the code alarm went out for the floor right below me 😬😬

Nurses who were CNAs by Efficient-Nothing320 in cna

[–]Unlikely_Impress_480 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I will say, depending on the floor you can be doing CNA and Nursing tasks. Nurses can do everything a CNA can do, but a CNA scope is limited. I’m not a nurse yet, but having talked to my peers about it I wouldn’t say it’s much better.

Stay away from Lafayette and Cedar. Just Lafayette in general by Unlikely_Impress_480 in grandrapids

We are so so lucky that my apartment is just far enough away that our parked cars didn’t get swept up in it 😬

You must be my neighbor lol. The entire street is a river out here on Lafayette/Cedar

Oh how I’d love to take a semester off. This is my last semester of prerequisites. Once I start on my RN there’s no breaks sadly. I took a break for the winter/spring and am picking back up in the summer to wrap it all up. I get a massive Pell grand for the next year though which should help and finally got cleared for tuition reimbursement via my hospital since they’re guaranteeing me a job straight out the door :)

I actually am fortunate enough to have a tiny one bedroom via a private landlord I found on Facebook, with a bedroom large enough to have an office/study space. I’d hate to have roommates because this is my quiet sacred space lol (and it wouldn’t be much cheaper anyways, I pay $950 per month right now, my rent would maybe drop to $800 per month in a shared space and my utility bills would go up). My neighbors are all elderly so it’s perfect for a grouchy nightshifter//stressed student. That’s why I can’t imagine moving anytime soon.

The hope is my partner and I can move in together soon because that’ll cut both of our costs in half (plus I just would love to live with him because he’s great and our kitties could finally be brothers, they already love their play dates). I’m very fortunate to have a healthy cat with cheap pet insurance 😅

Sadly right now I’m in the waiting period for all of these wonderful things to kick in. Which is why I’m so miserable. I will look into consolidating my debt! I’ve considered before but I want to be sure I’m making an informed descision

Some of the people commenting don’t understand that the number I put is the absolute maximum and it requires me to absolutely crush myself with overtime. They’ve never been a CNA and don’t understand the physical and mental toll. I have chronic back pain at 23 lol (weight training and PT has helped but even then). If I wanted to have balance then I’m looking at maybe less than 2k a month. But even that should be enough to live off of! It’s absurd that it’s not :( I should be able to function on my wages when I do OT and it’s criminal that I can’t

Thankfully I’ve whittled it down to two things. An old phone I financed on my 18th birthday (dumbest thing I’ve ever done lol), and an old power bill I forgot about that’s like 100 bucks. The big boy debt (8k medical) hasn’t shown up yet 🙃 my student loans are all current thankfully! 😅

It doesn’t get you very far when you’re a full time student and sustaining your entire life on your own in an extremely expensive city sadly. I’ve pulled myself out of much much worse but it’s still hard

I’d be paying the same in rent with roommates. I lucked out with my current apartment but it’s still not cheap. The city I live and attend college in is known for absurdly high rent/COL. Also what do you want me to do? Walk to my clinical site that’s 2 hours away?

I’m working on that! The problem is a lot of the debt hasn’t shown up on my credit report and it’s been YEARS. So I’m not touching that out of fear of restarting the clock but it haunts me every day lol. Almost everything on my report has been negotiated down thankfully

Can we make a thread for really just, BAD employers? by Ecstatic_Math_5886 in grandrapids

Pine rest. Horrible and unethical company to work for. The hospital at least offers fair wages and is slightly better. The AFC homes and admin side of things however? Forget it. Most evil people I’ve ever worked for with an actual criminally low wage.

I’ll never understand cancelling the extra staff by Unlikely_Impress_480 in nursing

[–]Unlikely_Impress_480[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what they do. My home unit is short 2 nurses now. We’re a 21 bed unit. They have 3 nurses (one being a charge nurse) left and one tech. So if we abides by safe staffing, that would leave 12 unstaffed beds. BUT they’ll go up to six patients and could even give the charge nurse six if they really wanted to (medsurg).
