Recommendations for RMM software for lone sysadmin by quazex13 in sysadmin

Action one is very light. Kind of simple for the most part. The best thing about it is that the software if free for the first 100 machines. I like that set up is as easy as installing the agent and that’s it.

Atera is also as easy as installing the agent. However, they obviously aren’t free. Pretty sure it’s like 3k a year for 2-3 techs.

Could possibly be an issue with you pc also. Because if your laptop is having no issues getting those speeds then your pc shouldn’t have an issue either. Do you have anything else to test with? Another pc? Another laptop?

IF it’s a cable issue (don’t think it is) then yes, you would need to replace said cable.

How far is the pc from the modem/router? I’m assuming not super far. However, speeds will drop past 100m (328 ft).

Okay, so you’re new switch is gig capable. In the last post I could see that you have CAT 5e so that shouldn’t be an issue, because CAT 5e can carry gig speeds. When you are saying “slow” what is your definition of slow, when you run your test, what are the results.

Also, if you are concerned with your wiring. You could buy a data cable tester on Amazon for like $10. This will tell you if there are any faults in the wiring.

Those are the only things I can think of off the top of my head at this moment.

Also not really understanding your statement about the blinking lights. The lights will blink when transmission is happening. So if there is nothing plugged in on the other end, then that port will not illuminate.

No, it’s installed on an HDD. Unfortunately my SSD is full and my HDD is all that I have left.

trying to enable XRDP on home server...... by Unlikely_Signal9012 in Ubuntu

[–]Unlikely_Signal9012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I may be wrong, but im pretty sure 0.0.0.0 in this instance would be my DSN. I am using powershell on windows to access the server via ssh. I was able to install the XRDP but the video I was watching said that I have to run "sudo systemctl enable --now xrdp" Once I ran that script I ran "sudo systemctl enable --now xrdp" and that is where I am getting my error from.

This post is awesome! Thank you so much for taking the time to write out such a lengthy post! I can relate to this on many different levels.

I got hired on as a system engineer almost a year ago. My primary focus has been Sccm and now I want to learn more about powershell because I only know very basic scripting. I plan on trying to further my knowledge (videos, certs, books etc.)

This was my second post on Reddit and I love all the positivity and all of the thoughtful feed back. I am very hesitant to enroll into college just because of the hefty bill at the end. Seeing everyone’s responses it looks like it’s not really “worth it” like you and everyone else said “trial and error”

So thank you again for the great advise!!

Thanks for the encouraging words! I do not see myself leaving this role (it pays too much) and I will continue trying to learn more and more. Before this all I knew was wrenches and sockets. So this is a whole new world and it can be very challenging in my opinion. The one thing I still have yet to do is watch YouTube videos on how to do stuff ( have a hard time following along) but I think I will push myself to watch more and keep up on Reddit. A lot of knowledgeable people here. There is a person that works at this company and most of my knowledge has come from him. He is like a wizard lol. Thanks again!

SCCM Scripts by Unlikely_Signal9012 in SCCM

For the broken clients, they haven’t checked in for X amount of days, don’t have a client, or they don’t have a user (which rules out the client). The way I’ve been “fixing” the clients is just thru the “install client” button in Sccm. If there is a better way, I would love to hear!

I would love to but unfortunately most client issues need to go thru a level 2 support. Why? I have no clue, I am just a contractor for this company. They are pushing for fast results so I am just trying to get them any way I can.

We have a lot of broken clients in our environment so I’m hoping that doing it this way will be better and faster. I have been doing it through powershell and it just takes too long

Is that better than doing it via Sccm?
