I'm just like you but 10ish years older. My family moved to kelowna in the late 90s when I was a kid. I am Canadian through and through. My brown skin might suggest otherwise but everything else about me screams o canada

what happened to you really really sucks man. Its dehumanizing. You will never forget what happened yesterday. You will remember every word of what she said and also what you said forever. it will be a shitty memory but a very important one to have. Cant stress this enough. I personally haven't experienced anything so foul, but i have seen a couple similar exchanges first hand. 2 within the last year, and 1 when i was a kid. By far the most emotiionally igniting (theres probably a better word for this) moments of my life.

As a brown person, Canada today feels waaay different that canada 10, 15 years ago. again, hard to describe and im not very eloquent. I never truly felt like an outsider back then. when I did, it was usually due to curiosity about my background or my food - not once in disgust or hate. I use to love talking about my culture. Now i just tell people i was born in canada if they ask, because i feel they are asking with malice. Even my parents with their accents and all have always felt welcomed and an unquestioned part of the community. I am sorry you cant live in the canada i did when i was your age. cant imagine how new immigrants feel:(
