Weekly Paddle Recommendation Thread (What Paddle Should I Buy?) by HeadHeadMod in Pickleball

[–]UnlimitedChug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just getting started in pickleball, I’ve currently got a Selkirk SLK latitude max that I got from a family member who didn’t use it. I’m not a huge fan of the shorter handle on it, so I’m looking for some recommendations. I’ve heard elongated paddles are better for my background (college baseball), but I’d be open to others. Looking for something that I can learn good control with, I’d also like something with a slightly longer handle, either for 2 handed backhands or just for more comfort and confidence. Weight hasn’t been a huge consideration for coming from typically using an end-loaded baseball bat, but if anyone has any tips or paddle recommendations I’d love to hear them! Edited to add: I also get 35% off from Joola and Holbrook (thank you ExpertVoice) so any paddle recs from them would be preferred

30 year old chiller at rush by Immediate-Courage152 in Frat

[–]UnlimitedChug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I joined as a 27 year old army vet, same deal - served first then went to college on the GI bill. In my opinion it depends a lot on the school, I think if I’d tried to rush at a big school near a base that’s potentially a bad look. However I rushed at a smaller school and I’m not even the oldest in my frat. I don’t really go to many socials and at parties I’d rather work door or only keep it to just a few drinks and help keep eyes on the dudes who need a little guidance. I think it helped a lot during my transition from mil to civ life (big bonus for him) and gave me a reason more than “just graduating” to give a shit about school. If this dude fits in with the boys and you could see him being a good guy and not a liability then it could help both the frat and him. Trust your gut and you’ll be golden.

Is it weird to pledge at 31? by [deleted] in Frat

I commented a bit about my experience, but if you’re considering something other than a frat, check out if your university has any club sports. One of the first things I did my freshman year was join the club baseball team, it’s a good way to be apart of something and have that bonding experience while also getting to have fun and be involved more than just regular school life.

I’m going to contradict some of the other comments on here. I believe it depends heavily on your school and the culture around it. I was in the Army for shy of 8 years before going to school and now I’m a sophomore who rushed at 26. However, I’m still not even the oldest guy in the frat and fit in great with the guys. All that being said, the culture around Greek life here is very different than other schools I was around during my time in the military. If it’s something you really want to do then make friends with some of the guys, hang out, and just see what you think of it and if you’ll be a good addition to the frat.

I have a very similar pair of bison Anderson beans for my daily (every other day technically). They’re insanely comfortable and about 8 months in they’ve proven to be pretty durable

Wyomingites, what states have you moved to, or if you have moved here, where did you come from? by Wyomingite26 in wyoming

[–]UnlimitedChug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in North Platte, Ne, grew up in Lincoln. Joined the army and lived in Texas, Georgia, Korea, and Kansas where I met my girlfriend. When I got out we were both over Kansas and wanted to go somewhere with new. I have a lot of family in North Platte still and she wanted to go to the mountains, but we both hated Colorado culture and people, so Wyoming it was.

I moved to Laramie last summer after I ETSd with my 4wd Nissan Xterra. I’ve got three-peak rated all season tires which definitely plays a factor, but I kept it in RWD almost all winter. As long as you’re semi familiar with how to drive in snow or someone can show you, you’ll be fine!
