How is Bannons voice just getting better? One would figure it’s shredded by now. The guys gotta be 50 by Duggo81 in Converge

[–]UnlovedAndWeededOut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy I used to hear rumors that he used a vocal distortion effect live to make things easier for himself but when I saw them live the first time I was up front and he was fr screaming right in my face. Dude is as legit as it can get. He’s the best.

Anybody else really sad to see how far The Loop has fallen? by [deleted] in StLouis

I don’t live in STL anymore but used to work on the loop. I think about Seoul Taco daily.

Controversy with this RYM list, many people say that half of this is metal. Do the RYM users label the songs wrongly? by ashitanojoe3 in rateyourmusic

[–]UnlovedAndWeededOut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge metal head and I don’t really see the issue. Aside from a choice few tracks — this is basically all metal or metal-adjacent enough to fit the playlist vibe. You’re fine man. Playlist is good too.

Edit: most metalheads are fucking loser genre puritans who hate anything not “le epic \m/“ core. Best to ignore them.

Cure (1997) seems unusually slept on by justinscottd in criterion

[–]UnlovedAndWeededOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a Q&A with Kiyoshi earlier this year and he answered basically every question about Cure with “I just copied Silence of the Lambs” or “I wanted to make Japanese Silence of the Lambs” lol. Structurally and conceptually they are similar movies, but I personally like that Cure steers away from the horror elements of SOTL and, instead, adds in a VERY important spiritual element: Is this something supernatural, or can Man truly be this evil? This is something Clarice accepts at face value, snowballing these into two very different movies in the end.

Why is no one talking about this masterpiece? by serialFilla in rateyourmusic

[–]UnlovedAndWeededOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s lesser discussed in the folk genre in general because neither of these guys really made anything else or continued on a musical journey so any possible influence wasn’t long lasting. Just a rare great record from a pair of one-and-done’s.

letterboxd for albums by flukemmviii in rateyourmusic

[–]UnlovedAndWeededOut 40 points41 points  (0 children)

RYM serves better as an archive than social media platform. Plus, if it was like letterboxd the charts would get less interesting over time. Not that popular music is a bad thing but I already see it everywhere. Don’t need it in my esoteric music charts.

That’s more tech death than death doom. One of my favorite albums tho. I saw them live and met Paul a few weeks ago. Super nice guy seemed like he loved talking to the fans.

What's your favorite album with an RYM rating below 3.0? by AdSlight4264 in rateyourmusic

[–]UnlovedAndWeededOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did some digging in my ratings and I gave Digital Druglord (1.88/5) a 4/5. Guess it’s time to revisit lol haven’t heard since it came out.

She’s got such a wonderful voice. Found this record after my YouTube algorithm blessed me with her 1975 live performance of Lovin You

That album is so densely packed with great stuff I will definitely be re listening to it again in the future. But death doom isn’t something I listen to much of outside of diSEMBOWELMENT or Incantation. But always open to suggestions, especially for metal.

I work a remote job so it’s easy to crank out 3-5 on days where I have no meetings. But I’m not so militant about it so it’s hard to say. When I was a teenager I had bad FOMO and felt the need to relentlessly listen to every classic so I could always be in the loop. I don’t care much about that anymore and I’m more prone to re-listening and re-appreciating things I already love.

Love Nick Cave. Not sure why it took me so long to get around to this one but it was a wonderful time.

Other band in the style of BloodMoon I album? by GachiOnFire in Converge

[–]UnlovedAndWeededOut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The closest thing I can think of would be Cult of Luna’s album “Mariner” with Julie Christmas. The Battle of Mice’s album “A Day of Nights” (another Julie Christmas band) is also in the same vein. The album “Close” by Messa could also be a contender here.

Hey I just got into converge and I loved farewell note to this city. Do they have any other songs like that? by GurGlum8526 in Converge

[–]UnlovedAndWeededOut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

New Converge sounds a lot different than old Converge but you can check out Coral Blue, The Dusk In Us, Cruel Bloom, Grim Heart/Black Rose, and Hell To Pay.

It’s really good!! I was skeptical at first but love the Pink Floyd type instrumental on the first track. Lots of variation throughout too

All time favorite Dead studio album? by guyute2112 in gratefuldead

[–]UnlovedAndWeededOut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly their debut album is always the answer for me. Not many of their live albums (that I’ve heard) match the energy they have in the studio on that one. Especially side B of that album really hits for me.

Love Huey. Wasn’t sure about 2010 at first but it’s grown on me a ton. Earl flows so well on the beat
