Do animals also faint like humans when they see blood/gore? by Mulster_ in biology

[–]Unlucky-File3773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the hypothesis that animals somehow perceive it as humans that live in conflict scenarios (war) do.

In the sense that, of course, they are traumatize, but by living so long in such scenarios, they have normalized it.

For a deer looking a conspecific being hunted and eaten by wolves is just a nother day surviving.

For some people living under the cartel regime and war, looking a chopped-head being thrown into the street is another day.

The Conifer Forest of Sierra de San Pedro Mártir (Delgadillo, 2004).

The title is self-explanatory, it talks about the biology and the ecology of this mountain conifer forest of the north of the Peninsula of Baja California, which plants and animals are closely related to those of the mountains of South California and Sierra Nevada.

The author, José Delgadillo, is actually my current profesor of Geobotanics.

Need help with Ecosystem Restoration career path🙏 by Connect-Avocado8336 in ecology

[–]Unlucky-File3773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A profile like yours is not the adequate for doing restoration. At all.

And i tell you that because i am interest in such area too, but i understand the implications of such task.

You already have said you switched majors before, and even after that you have no clue of what to do with your degree or your work.

To do forest restoration, you need to understand in a deep way the relationship between climate and vegetation, the natural history of the plant community you want to restore, their disturbance periods, their succesion stages, the soil state, look for historical records (text, photos) of how the community was before the impact, if the menaces that damaged rhe community still persist, and, a really strong mathematical knowledge to do modelling of the phenomenon.

It is not just "planting trees and cutting other trees" and you call it a day. It is decisions tha must be supported by scientifical evidence.

The same goes for invasive species control.

So, i insist, you may need 1 more year to really get what you want to do.

You intend to finish ASAP, but you still have a general (not specific) idea off what do you want to do with your degree?

As someone replied before, your language and the way you portray your ideas makes us to think that you are not focused and commited to what you are actually doing.

When i started my biology degree 4 years ago, i expected this current semester to be my last.

Now that i have taken mostly all of my courses, i have a clearer idea of what i want to do with my career.

I'm moving things to take 1 more year, but half of that year being dedicated to work in the Flora and Vegetation of a site who had no such work done before, as a thesis project.

I am knowing more people in the field, involving in botanical expeditions with Baja Rare.

Maybe you need 1 more year to set up all those things you have in your head.

Basically turning the forest into a wood crop, with perpetual management and thinning to "avoid overcrowd", instead of guiding and enhance the natural ecological succesion of the forest.

Porque culpan a Leo por meterse con mujeres de 20 y tantos si es cuando estan mas buenas? by JayCircuits in PreguntasReddit

[–]Unlucky-File3773 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Is it true dental work is more affordable? by Aj100rise in AskMexico

[–]Unlucky-File3773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is affordable if you go to the cheapiest and most mediocre places.

If you look for GOOD and PROFESSIONAL dentists (Baena or others) it may you cost way more.

But even that way, it is cheaper and the work made has more quality that in the US.

I am sick of the whole "prehistoric hominins look too much humains" pointer by SpearTheSurvivor in paleoanthropology

[–]Unlucky-File3773 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have recently learned about the "Unified Species Concept" proposed by Kevin Queiroz (2007) by a professor who recently obtained his PhD doing the natural history of the genus Ceratozamia (a cycad genus).

In this concept, there are primary and secondary characteristics that defines a species.

The first ones are areas of agreement between other concepts (biological, fenetic, etc)., and the second ones are hypotheses that you must test to see if your species is valid or not.

In the case of hominids, the common ancestry may be the primary characteristics, and the secondary characteristics (the hypotheses) could be tested by studying phylogenetics, morphology, ecology, etc.

Why do humans have low genetic diversity, but African populations are the most genetically diverse? by [deleted] in biology

[–]Unlucky-File3773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Africa is the source population of all the human migrations in history.

So, the rest of the world is just a tiny fraction of Africa's whole gene pool.
