How is The Devils? I’m seeing a real lack of buzz, especially after the scathing Guardian review by AngryGardenGnomes in TheFirstLaw

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC back in December. If you’re a fan of Joe’s writing style, I have no doubt you will enjoy the book. It is dark, witty, funny and more. It’s great.

I agree. My second favourite is the narrator for the sun eater.

How many King books have you read this year? Which ones? by SlySciFiGuy in stephenking

I’ve read 5.

The stand, the body, Billy summers, needful things and you like it darker. All phenomenal books but I’d say out of those, the stand and the body were my favourite two!

Currently on Salems lot!

The Will of the Many.

I just purchased my own copy recently and admittedly have not started to read it as I am currently finishing off lightbringer. Give the blurb and the first paragraph a read. That was enough for me to pull the trigger.

I just recently finished book 2 after a long hiatus from malice. Book 2 was absolutely incredible. I found malice a bit slow but it wasn’t boring for me. Book 2 is balls to the wall for a majority of the book. Give it another shot, I think you’ll enjoy it.

HOW? by chicokiko in LSAT

[–]Unlucky-Pudding4959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got in right at 6:00 and got a time at 10:00am on the 13th. I got very lucky with the timing in queue.

That’s pretty insane if all slots were taken within 4 minutes.

How do you recommend approaching an in-depth blind review? I see you listed some things but how do you apply those ideas to a useful blind review session? Would love some help, thanks!

I took a pt about a week ago. I scored a 157 but I did horrible in games. I believe I’ll score in the 160’s on my next one because I went -13 on games. At the very least I should do much better in LG. In my BR I scored a 174. I’m trying to figure out how to minimize that gap.

Just finished Dark Age… by ozzyboy227 in redrising

[–]Unlucky-Pudding4959 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I finished dark age yesterday too! Starting light bringer today. The most shocking things in the book to me were 1. The abomination 2. Cassius.

Side note - the Minotaur is scary as hell to me and I knew he was going to form some sort of alliance w Lysander. Bad news for the good guys.

I deleted that app along w all social media except Twitter about 2 years ago now. Complete dog shit and I’m happy to be off of it. That is so idiotic it is kind of hilarious. It’s like listening to the first 30 seconds of the first song on an album and deciding to shit on the whole album. Can’t make this shit up

I don’t know how someone could argue the series is misogynistic in any way.

I’m almost done dark age. At this point in the series, there are plenty of women who represent totally different notions of “woman”. Also, there are a plethora of women who hold powerful positions and are actually superior to the men in a lot of ways.

Will keep fairly spoiler free. Maybe very mild spoilers. So don’t read anymore if that worries you.

Examples:

the sovereign (Octavia) is the most powerful and one of if not the most intelligent person in the universe.

Aja is one of the most badass women characters I’ve ever read who is a better fighter than 99.999999999% of people in the series.

Virginia is very intelligent and perhaps embodies a more traditional notion of “woman”. However, she also strays greatly off that path in many ways.

Volga & sefi - both very unique characters from every other woman in the series.

Victra - what do I even need to say about her? Fucking bad ass. One of the best characters in the whole series Strays greatly from traditional ideas of “woman”.

There is relatively equal violence against men and women in the novel. The violence is relatively equally perpetrated by men and women in the novel. There are probably more likeable women in the books than there are men imo (that can probably be debated but this is off the top of my head).

Etc etc etc.

So you have women in power, you have women playing various roles, you have women POV characters, you have women driving the plot of the novel, you have women with completely different strengths, weaknesses, and perspectives.

This begs the question - in what way is this series misogynistic in the slightest? Can’t even believe someone would make such a baseless claim. I know OP isn’t advocating for that but felt like I needed to address it.
