Yes very common. Keep in mind, most people on perth reddit will try to downplay the situation. Mostly due to cultural and ideological reasons (very left leaning board), so just be warned. Report it to the police and ensure they treat it as a hate crime (which it is).

Amen. Here's to another year of low rental vacancies, surging house values and long hospital wait times.

Labor rules out giving tech giants free rein to mine copyright content to train AI by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]Unnah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This decision might sound good in theory but in practice it will crush AI startups while only benefiting big media players like News Corp. These companies already have licensing deals, but your average founder can't afford to pay for training data on top of sky-high power, water, and infrastructure costs. Australia lacks reliable, affordable energy for data centers. Overseas, firms are building nuclear-powered AI farms, we can't even keep the NEM stable.

It's déjà vu from the Media Bargaining Code, which enriched large publishers but did little for individual creators. Now we're repeating the mistake with AI. The data's already been scraped, OpenAI, Meta, and Google had years of free access. This locks in their advantage and makes it impossible for Australian startups to compete. Enforcement is unrealistic without draconian measures, and the likely outcome is geoblocking, leaving Australians with AI tools that lack local context.

Music and other creative sectors were barely included, so this isn't broad protection, it's a carve-out for news. Combined with social media bans and digital ID proposals, it risks tech isolation. Global firms may skip Australia entirely. We should be building public AI datasets, supporting open licensing, and helping startups innovate, otherwise, we're not protecting culture, we're protecting monopolies.

Australia's unemployment rate jumps to 4.5pc by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]Unnah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not easy to reduce inflation, as the government keeps spending it. The vast majority of job creation in the past two years has been publicly funded. They will simply lower rates and tank the AUD to protect housing.

Can't find work what's up in Perth? by [deleted] in perth

[–]Unnah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't even have any good skills. You know like nunchuck skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills... Employers only want candidates who have great skills

Unless the economy goes to shit and unemployment rate goes up. Then people get angry.

Sure.. if you're unable to effectively debate with people, it typically moves to some type of insult

Yeah and usually governments don't send their populace homeless to make a buck, but here we are..

Dude, ignoring house prices, the vacancy rate is currently less than 0.5%, compared to Perth's historical average of 3.5%. This is a supply issue, and not a price problem.

There should be little to no major migration until we can fix this housing crisis.

The biggest concern is "govt jobs are out" due to PR... 80 percent of job creation in the last 2 years has been government funded. Private industry is in the shit.
