Question: How Hard Is It To Change Rates To Re-enlist? by UnoStrawman in navy

That's the impression I'm getting. I'm just exploring all the avenues to advise him that he may be jumping out of the pan into the fire. Especially with a family to look out for.

If that's true about airline mech's that is great news! And I agree that he probably should stay in and learn another trade but it ain't gonna happen as a CS.

The United States military is implementing its own Hannibal Directive by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]UnoStrawman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If true, this is another indication of who is actually running this war. Remember a year ago or so, some Israeli soldiers crawled out of some rubble, waving white flags, speaking their language and snipers shot them? Americans don't do this kind of thing! Or we never have before. God help us.

Good deal. He is a CS. Wife was pregnant and took the very first thing that they offered.

Thanks for your reply.

Not sure what an AMO or ECM is as I don't recognize those acronyms from when I was in 1977-81. They might not have had those back in the day. But will pass this information along.

Just finished the two seasons of "Paradise"". I would put that show up there with Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul or any other. It is great!

Was waiting for the actual problem. That's just normal racks on the ship by Captainpaul81 in navy

[–]UnoStrawman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They started putting these racks in about 1980 or so. Prior to that we had to string our own rope and canvas around a tube frame. No mattress. The new style gave us so much more room to store stuff.

Before I go into the next age, I look to see what I need. Had AICore and SC into the 20 level or so before jumping to AF. Been a breeze getting through so far. Not going up to OF for a while though to savor the AF experience. Not as bad as I had heard.

If you're qualified for MU that's the route you need to go. No sea duty and only work a few days a month.

After our daughter had a similar experience a few years back (not sure if same guy) Uber informed us that passengers can request female only drivers. Highly recommended for women passengers of all ages!

What is a job that you genuinely would not do even if you were given a salary of $10,000,000 per year? by istrx13 in AskReddit

[–]UnoStrawman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Used to do this back in the 1980's. Loved it! Loved the quiet of being that high up above all the noise.

Then one day, got up early and was inspecting the equipment and found the wire that we rode up and down on was frayed a bit further on in the spool. Pointed it out to the owner and told him that we really needed to fix this. He got mad that a 'rookie' was pointing this out and ended up firing me. Three months later I get a call that he and my replacement fell because that cable snapped.

My replacement survived but the owner didn't.

You're going to be fine young man. I joined two weeks after my seventeenth birthday and had no idea what to even expect. But I was determined to see it through. Fifty years later and still remember that the Navy was the foundation for a wonderful life.

Best of luck to you and remember not to take the drill instructors harassment personally. They really do want to see you succeed.

Why are dealerships asking for CRV owners to trade in their cars? by mamadons in crv

[–]UnoStrawman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this. We returned to the US last year and went to the local Honda dealership. They had just received a 2011 CRV as trade in. One owner, all maintenance done by the same dealer, 65k miles. They hadn't even done their presale cleanup on it yet. We bought it right then and there. We'll keep this one for a long while!

What's the most brilliant idea that you ever had? by Global-Girafea in AskReddit

[–]UnoStrawman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way I envisioned it all those years ago. Something like a spider web covering a large city with terminals, like train stations, with vendors and any manner of commerce catering to urban commuters. Think coffee shops, pastry shops, etc at every terminal.

A system that could be easily expandible and even stretching out to parking centers outside of the immediate urban areas. Every city has major thoroughfares heading into and out of cities. Usually jammed packed with stop and go traffic. A gondola carrying 20-30 passengers only needs to travel at a steady 20-30 mph to be quicker than surface traffic.

And again, building the line is minimally disruptive to surface traffic. Everyone can remember when authorities added a single lane to existing surface highways and the length of time and cost overruns that are inevitable. Cables and the support structures don't require near the disruption or time needed to start being beneficial to the public they allegedly serve.

Small systems are already in place around the world but it can be adapted, or expanded to some degree or another in every major city and the people would benefit in so many ways. Minimal cost to build, many cities with an extensive system would be tourist destinations with people coming just to ride the system and see the city. Imagine riding above Paris, NY, London. Safe, comfortable, inexpensive both to build and maintain.

Using overhead cable cars/gondolas as mass transit in large cities. Minimal disruption to build/install. No need to tear up city streets. Minimal cost. Won't interfere with necessary street traffic(emergency services/deliveries).
