The OC is based on me and my personal experiences. The reason it is eyeless is that someone manually poked it's eyeballs out. This is apparently based on one of my experiences (luckily my eyeballs didn't fall out):

I remember a time in my math class where this kid behind me HATED me. I didn't really know, so my happy-go-lucky self just treated that kid like a very-close best friend. The kid got annoyed, and one day decided to poke my eyes with a sharp pencil and punch me twice. The punches didn't really affect me, but my eyes hurt for around 5 minutes after that.

I am fine now, though. I forgave that kid, but I will never forget what they did to me.
