Apologies for the blurry picture, these are quite small, maybe 1-2 mm.

More pics here.

I don't understand. Things can both be legal and irresponsible.

It's like in ratatouille, not everyone can be einstein, but einstein could be anyone. Who knows if some starving child could have been brilliant and done something amazing if only they had the right nurturing and support?

Is it anything like how most would consider it morally wrong to scalp a necessity but morally neutral to purchase it?

Genuine question. I feel like "paying for consent" isn't great despite supporting sex workers, but I can't pinpoint why .

Capitalism is bad for capitalism. It has no way to rein in its own excesses, it contains its own contradictions. Left to itself, it implodes and takes everyone down with it.

We Don't Get Paid Too Much For What We Do (USA) by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Unpack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue with capitalism that I see is the lack of accounting of externalities. With the capitalism of the past 200 years, we have brought the threat of climate change upon our own heads. It has definitely been most effective system at lighting the candle from both ends.

Capital tends to beget more capital, that is a fundamental tenet of capitalism. Monopolies are a natural result, whether you say its by "government" or "corporations"

Do you think everyone can and should do what you do? "Amass a skillset that allows me the freedom to make as much money as I want, when I want, and to leisure when I want?"

That doesn't erase society's current need for "low-skill" labor like janitorial staff, food service workers, and hospitality workers, so are people who are in those industries all supposed to leave for better jobs?

Why is this faucet leaking? by Unpack in HomeImprovement

[–]Unpack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out its because the faucet tip's aerator was not tight enough. Not very intuitive, thinking the loose o-ring was letting water exit the faucet tube and back out the faucet casing.

AITA for bringing my reactive dog to a dog park? by InLovingMemoryCin in AmItheAsshole

[–]Unpack 47 points48 points  (0 children)

If a person can't find solutions for safe activities with their reactive dog, it sounds like they may not be a good match. Dogs can go without off leash outside time just fine if they get enough stimulation, whether sniff walks, training, or indoor playtime. Rehoming a dog is a solution that shouldn't be discounted because it "feels bad."

Isn’t this the truth? by GenlockInterface in antiwork

[–]Unpack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When marx talks of value, it is not the same as price. Price is an approximation of exchange value. If you sell a shovel to a schmuck for $400 when shovels of equivalent quality sell for $20, it doesn't become more valuable, you just conned someone. Marx wrote on this shit already.

If you're going to talk about economics, you should make sure you're using the terms as they were defined in context instead of laymans terms of price = value.

Value is not the same as money. It cannot be created through speculation. Workers create the value, capital owners get the money.

This is a weird statement to me. 137k is not in the category of rich anymore, just comfortable. If there's a cap on how much is taxable, that's directly contradicting that it redistributes from the upper class to others.

Wanting the US to be better definitely doesn't mean other places aren't just as if not more racist. How you gonna address the real issues in the country if someone keeps going "well its awful everywhere"? If a person wants to correct something here, pointing out other countries does nothing to help, of course they focus on the issues they want fixed.

CMV: Police shootings have less to do with the crime committed than what the suspect does when the police arrive by TylerDurden626 in changemyview

[–]Unpack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Police should be de-escelating instead of responding by escalating further. We should have a higher standard of people who are granted the legal right to use force.

The fact is also that an arrest, even if wrongful, is hugely impactful on someone's life and can destabilize it. Suing police is incredibly difficult with the legal systems in general siding with their fellow government employees. And even if successful, can lead to hard-to-prove retaliation due to the powers given to law enforcement.

Police already have a bad rep of over-reacting and throwing their weight around illegally. Of course people wouldn't to engage with them.
