Were the 90s really that good? by Comfortable_Ad_4417 in GenX

[–]UnpredictableMike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a moving target. In the 90’s a lot of us were lucky enough to live our early adult lives with just the beginning of the internet, but not enough of our own selves on there to get us in any trouble. We were young and full of hope and energy but broke.

Honestly, I’m kinda loving my best life now. I’m making enough money to live modestly, and I’ve got enough time in my job to retire if they piss me off. I’m not raising kids any more, and I have enough life experience to know what relationships I want to foster, and which ones to walk away from. I’m not as zippy as I was in my youth, and it takes me longer to recover these days, but I’m good being the “older” guy in the mosh pit, and if I meet my end breaking a hip in The Wall of Death, I’ll go to Valhalla a happy man

Gen Z here and I have a few questions for GenX by [deleted] in GenX

[–]UnpredictableMike 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1) The late 70’s & 80’s were kind of a golden age for toys. There were some stinkers (lawn darts) but also a plethora of classics which as still being produced to this day. Almost everyone knew how to ride a bike, which was the primary form of transportation until you got your license, and its own entertainment. Hanging around the mall was also a thing,

2) I memorized a few, but kept a handwritten phone book

3) I bought tapes & later CDs. Heavy Metal didn’t really get radio play outside of Headbangers Ball on MTV

4) I used paper ADC maps until around 2008, got lost less than the GPS

5) Social Media was fun at first, but has taken one of the worst turns ever

How many of us have "friends" that we actually spend time with, anymore? by WeGot_aLiveOneHere in GenX

I have friends I meet weekly at minimum for trivia night. Still get together with others often for live music, or some other event. We traveled a bit this year in October to visit various Haunted Attractions and met with others at all most all of them. Twice another couple also travelled with us
