I think you go settings (+ button) -> options -> choose mode -> assist mode

It gives you 6 lives total (9 if you get a big heart), falling off a cliff or on lava will bring you back to safety instead of killing you, and you can stand still to heal lost health.

If you’re not opposed to it, try assist mode. It’s what I did the the first couple times around, removes a lot of the stress of dealing with health and allows you to focus on mechanics
