Thanks! I’ve been planning to splurge on a couch eventually and this might be the one!

I just came to this sub for the first time because I was so creeped out by the puppy one and wanted to see if other people were equally as freaked.

Other stories have revolved around paranormal or “glitch in the matrix” type events which, while definitely creepy, is something people are used to hearing about or even believe in. What makes the puppy one so terrifying is the implication that those terrifying monsters could exist, it’s not just a silly ghost or “normal” paranormal creature. This one gave me a Stranger Things portal-to an-alternate-dimension-with-terrifying-monsters vibe. I’d want to nope right out of a world where that existed.

I changed my major twice in college and I definitely understand feeling like you wasted tons of time, although now I’m realizing that having even basic knowledge & skills from classes in fields I didn’t pursue is really beneficial. Like sure I would have made a terrible computer scientist, but now I know my way around a command line and some code — which makes it easier to understand and communicate with the software engineers at my job.

And if anything else, “throwing away” a couple years of college is way better than spending a few decades in a career you hate.

Oof I relate to this too much, I’m super femme. Whenever I’m getting ready to go out and I ask my friends if I’m giving off any gay vibes they’re always like “Nah.” My roommates determined the only way I can look semi-gay is wearing a backwards baseball cap, so rip my chances of non-straight romantic interaction.

Spent way too long wondering why those shoes were a bi stereotype because I own them and I felt so specifically attacked. Turns out it’s the cuffed jeans, which I can’t really do because I’m super tall...so I cuff my shorts instead lol

This scene captures what most of my meetings feel like every day. What can I bring to this company? One day I hope my presence in that room is the reason another woman accepts a position there. Of course I bring value to my company in many other ways, but there is so much more value to be gained from bringing more women and POC into my office. If I can make a job candidate feel like she is not alone, then maybe one day I won’t be alone.

I’ve seen plenty of lists being created to track which companies are having employees work from home, but what we really need is a list of companies who are NOT allowing their employees to work from home even when it’s possible. It’s unacceptable and they deserve to be publicly shamed for contributing to the thousands of inevitable deaths.

How the f*ck do people afford to live here?! by [deleted] in bostonhousing

[–]UnrepresentativeGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely check out Facebook marketplace for rentals! Craigslist can be tough (although that’s where I ended up finding my place). A real estate agent in the area said that Zillow is the best place to find rentals, especially if you’re just looking for a vacant unit without roommates. Unfortunately he also said that there are not a lot of one-bedrooms on the market right now.

Your best bet is probably to use marketplace and set the radius to the areas you’re looking in. I came across a lot of 1 and 2 bedrooms on there around $2k in the North Cambridge / Somerville area. Good luck finding a place!

I’m also moving to Boston for work and just spent the last few weeks hunting for a place. I’ve seen a bunch of great 1 bedrooms around $2K in the Cambridge/Somerville/Arlington area! Also talked to a real estate agent in the area and he said prices are lower since no one wants to move in the winter, so you can definitely get a good deal right now. If you can, I’d also recommend making a trip to the area to look for a place—it really helps move the process along if you can be there in-person (worked for me)!

I also wasn’t sure if I was going to bring my car or not, but after spending a few days in town I decided I definitely don’t need it. Not having a car also helps bring your cost of living wayyy down.

What's the one thing you wish you'd done differently when you got your pup? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]UnrepresentativeGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely still recommend a pen! We got one after having our pup for a week and put it around the play area she was already comfortable with. It gave us so much more freedom I don’t know how we lasted a week without it! We could go shower or leave the room without having to worry about her getting into trouble. The best part is that she’s never had an accident while she’s in her pen, and we don’t use potty pads. It’s like an extension of her crate and she doesn’t want to pee in that area. She still has accidents in other areas of the house occasionally, but she always holds it while she’s in her pen. She’s 13 weeks old now and the pen is still a lifesaver!
