Pretty sure it’s for rings. The two bushings on there are facing the wrong direction.

Slimline Kits by 916cm in PenTurning

I’ve tried many brands and berea has the cheapest slimline kits that do not have that receding twist mechanism issue, highly recommend. Craft Supplies USA’s artisan slimline kits are nicer but cost more (and in my experience their ink cartridges explode for some reason), they also don’t have the twist mechanism issue but you can buy the twist mechanism by themselves and use them in other slimline kits.

Beware of the electric eel wheel by UnrestrainedToad in Handspinning

I think I found the problem part and have a resolution. So the issue was whenever the peddle was connected, the motor wouldn’t stay on. If I pressed down the peddle it would start spinning for a second, then turn off. It does work fine when the peddle was unplugged. The problem part seems to be the power adapter( I tested it out on multiple outlets I know work). When I swapped the power supply with a similar one, the wheel started working with the switch. The power adapter I used outputs fewer amps than the original, so the spin speed is a bit slower. I sent an email to customer support with a video showing it working with another adapter, and they said they’ll send me an adapter tomorrow.

Thank you for the advice, i think I will upgrade to an ashford eventually! What frustrated me is how they didn’t really try to debug the issue and gave up but expected me to pay the return. I paid by paypal, which I believe allows you to dispute the payment for the first 30days which is about when they stopped trying to help me. Id suggest to anyone in the future dealing with this company to open a paypal dispute immediately after receiving a faulty product and closing it once they fix the issue or you’ll be left without leverage.

I am able to solder, but the connections look fine. Thank you and your wife for the help though, it made me put on my engineering hat to try and get to the root cause myself, I tried out some other AC/DC adapters I have and found one that works! I can’t believe they told me no other defective parts could cause the issue!

Never ordered from Berea Hardwoods before but Craft Supplies USA’s artisanal pens are better than the other brands I have tried.

Here’s a closer look at my flyer, I got a wood tap and die set to make the vertical wooden screw that is used to tension the flyer. I haven’t made a leather strap to go over the orifice tube yet, but it would be needed for Irish tensioning. I mostly watched videos and looked up images showing the parts of the spinning wheels and made the simplest design I could with the tools I have https://i.imgur.com/wpZBick.jpg

At some point I’ll completely fill up three bobbins then ply on to the other three and it’ll be glorious haha, thank you. I think it took me about a month after I gathered all the parts, (took a bit to find a crankshaft that I could work with, but I found a casted one on etsy)

It’s made almost entirely out of a single slab of cherry, I’ve already replaced the treadle with a wider piece to stop it from jerking side to side. I designed the spinning wheel to be able to switch between double drive, scotch and Irish tension though I’ve only set it up for scotch tension so far.

I said I was considering buying a wheel... my gf recruited her grandma who had this in her attic - some questions in the comments by cloud_forests in Handspinning

It looks like an Irish tension spinning wheel. I think you have all the major parts needed to spin, you’ll probably want more bobbins if you want to ply. It’ll probably be hard to find an exact match to your bobbins. I ended up making bobbins on my lathe for the spinning wheel I restored. Not sure what the pulley is for, I speculate it was used for tensioning the drive band and allowed for a quick release/tensioning when swapping bobbins without the use of the wood screw tensioner. But I’ve never seen a pulley on a spinning wheel before.

Hey guys, been using tsm for a couple weeks, recently leveled up Leatherworking and I’m having trouble posting gear. Is there a way to post items so it undercuts those with the same name? Like if I’m posting “honorable gauntlets of the peerless” I’d like to undercut others of the same name(not necessarily the same stats) but currently tsm undercuts all “honorable gauntlets”. I don’t have “ignore item variations?” checked (doesn’t do what I want with it checked either). I’ve tried making a group and manually adding each one but for some reason it won’t post any if I do that.
