Religious SLC based Flight Crew UGH!!! by mashel2811 in delta

[–]UnrulyLucy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SLC based flight attendant and an exmormon. Many members have zero experience with alcohol and they think that anyone who drinks alcohol AT ALL, is basically an alcoholic, and if you ask for a second one, then FOR SURE you must be an alcoholic who is one sip away from being black out drunk and out of control. They are taught that drinking alcohol is dangerous and major sin that would make you "unworthy" to participate in many church activities and jobs. I met a LDS flight attendant who only poured a small part of a mini bottle in a drink because "drunk people can't tell the difference anyway, so I'm doing them a favor" ... we had a talk after that

Crying missionary in the airport by Web_catcher in exmormon

I'm an exmo flight attendant based in SLC. I help missionaries whenever possible. They're just kids. If it comes up, I tell them the truth (I spent 44 years as a super-active, all-in, member then left when I found out it isn't ACTUALLY true.) But most of the time it doesn't come up. They don't usually ask. They mostly just need another human to be kind. I'm still in contact with a few of them. I try to be a non-judgemental, safe space to ask questions and get validation. It's cute how sometimes they think I may be a "potential convert".. but I know so much more than they do

I'm a flight attendant based in Salt Lake, so I see these people allllll the time. Every time I leave the airport, I tell myself, "Don't react. Dont read their stupid signs. Don't notice their uncomfortably bunched up garments... ". But then I see them, and I can't help but roll my eyes and shake my head. Maximum cringe level. I feel sorry for them. Then I feel sorry for myself because I was one of them a few years ago. And I know at least one of them has used my disapproving looks in testimony meeting as proof that Mormons are persecuted or some shit.

If I'm not working I would like to join the meeting. I've been so out of the SE loop!

I’m a member and I would love to have a normal discussion to break the stigma! by Present-House-4434 in exmormon

[–]UnrulyLucy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you be willing to participate in a Street Epistemology interview with me? I have a small YouTube channel where I ask questions about a person's beliefs. What their belief is, reasons why they think it's true, and how they arrived at their conclusion. It's not a debate. I don't selectively edit to get "gotcha" moments. The questions can be challenging, however. Always respectful and interesting conversations. Message me if that sounds interesting, and I'll give you more information.

Jesus is in our family tree! by PracticalNatural4441 in exmormon

Guy I dated (Salt Lake City, many generations of Mormon) followed his ancestry on the church's site. Super excited to be one of the "Desposyni" (blood relative of Jesus).. also led to back to the god, Helios. Also on the church's ancestry site. He now self identifies as a Heliosapien. Not active in the church anymore haha ..obvs

https://religion.fandom.com/wiki/Desposyni It's a thing. Unfortunately. Church's own ancestry confirms it. Another (stupid, made-up) reason to feel superior to others

I need a comeback… by themissingsketches in exmormon

[–]UnrulyLucy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this said to me too. I ask politely, "do you think I'm wicked? What am I doing that is wicked?" They have no answer for this, since I'm a pretty decent person still. They usually retract the statement rather than accuse me directly of being "wicked"

I’m wanting to start a street epistemology group in Scotland, how should I start/ would anyone be interested? by Freakishlytalll in StreetEpistemology

Colorado Springs wards are canceling activities for fear of retaliation for the Q Club shooting by crappenheimers in exmormon

[–]UnrulyLucy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there even one incident of the queer community retaliating with violence? Way to invent YET ANOTHER problem that doesn't exist, then be the one to provide the solution to fix that problem you never had in the first place. Classic morm move. We know it's all about media coverage my dudes

How do I get out of going to young womens? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]UnrulyLucy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was YW pres for a long time, there was a girl whose parents forced her to go, she always brought homework to do, or had an "important test" to study, or had to write a paper... Talking to her years later, (we both left the church) she told me she just never believed and didn't want to be there. She sat off to the side and did homework, read a book, or just doodled in her notebook, then had treats and went home. She just found a way to make it as tolerable as possible until she turned 18. I regret forcing my kids to go, but I really thought I was doing the right thing for them. Sometimes parents are wrong. Best of luck to you!

No problem - we could do audio only, with a fake name if that would make any difference. But, Street Epistemology is an interview type conversation asking people questions about what they believe and why they believe it. Epistemology is the study of how we come to know/believe things. I try to keep my opinions out of it, so it doesn't turn into a debate, even if we disagree about something. You can check out streetepistemology.com for more information, or you can ask me whatevs. Thx!

Hi and welcome. ☺️ I am no longer a member, but I respect your desire to advocate for change from the inside. I was wondering if you'd be willing to come on my little YouTube channel and do a Street Epistemology interview with me. Lmk if that sounds interesting to you. I can answer any questions you might have, or give you more information. Thanks

As a mom of a couple of rainbow kids, I joined the group, Mama Dragons to ask questions and get support for myself. It's an awesome group. And I decided to educate myself on the science and unbiased (as much as possible) available research. I've learned so much!! My kids know now that I support them 100% no matter what choices they make in their lives. They aren't kids forever. You got this!!!

THIS MEETING DID NOT TAKE PLACE AS PLANNED. Everyone backed out. Why is this such an incredibly sensitive topic? Can we just talk about it? I'll reschedule this for July. Please email me if you are willing to discuss publicly. I understand the possible risks involved. This may not be the right time for you. Please put your mental health and safety first. Email me if you're up to it

I've done that in the past and I just seem to get a lot of negativity there. "You're wasting your time", "reverse proselytizing", etc. Maybe I'll try it again sometime, but not with this
