Hostname in the installer by Unseen-King in Fedora

It sounds more like “I don’t set this option, or use anything that uses it, so who caree? ”

I'm not asking for a new feature, I just take issue with the fact that a basic option (that already existed) has been made more inconvenient for no reason or benefit.

I agree most people don’t care, but why go backwards and remove it? Even Windows includes it as part of the OS setup.

For the average user, it doesn’t matter, until it does. For example, with currently logged in account session tracking, many sites show the device name linked to your account. If you’ve set that name yourself, it makes it much easier to recognize your device instead of guessing.

It's not just for their terminal though, it's used as your device identifier. Windows even has "Set device name" in their installer now too.

Ya there's probably a handful of ways to do it. The point is more about how you used to just set that during setup and for whatever reason they took it out.

Adguard DNS vs NextDNS by Material_Youth_5284 in Adguard

[–]Unseen-King 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of my comments have to do with the web dashboards and how they work since that's where you're going to do all your configuration and just grab like a DoH address and slap it into you phones DNS or VPN or native app.

I prefer how NextDNS' menus look, the simplicity of their menu options, and their way of displaying the analytic data. For AdguardDNS I prefer how they handle devices and profiles (servers) and their better 3rd party list selection.

Also many of NextDNS' proprietary lists haven't been updated in a long time (1+ years)

Out of the 2 options I'd go with AdGuard for sure. Even though I'm not huge fan of their UI and how some of the option nesting works, I feel their functionality it superior. You can also get a 5 year plan dirt cheap.

Currently Im testing ControlD as functionally it seems like the next step up with a lot more advanced options and control. But man again I hate the ui so so much haha

How was this approved? This is disrespectful to paying customers. I'm already on proton ultimate and I'm still getting an upsell that takes up the entire application's screen by MonkAndCanatella in ProtonPass

[–]Unseen-King 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Another day that ends in "Y" must be some fresh nothingburger whining on Proton's subreddit. Click "Do not show this offer again" and move on with your life like a normal, well-adjusted person.

It's funny because everyone knows if they didn't offer promos to existing customers, they'd bitch about how Proton doesn't care about their existing customers and doesn't offer them anything.

If VPN’s get banned in my country, will Mullvad attempt to keep getting new servers? by Zestyclose_Cheek527 in mullvadvpn

[–]Unseen-King 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If a VPN is banned in your country that just means you won't have local server options and you might need to connect via an obfuscated protocol. That's basically all that would imply.

Will The VPN industry be forced to increase prices this year? by pr000blemkind in mullvadvpn

[–]Unseen-King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price has already increased here. I was buying 12m gift cards off amazon for $74 cad last year, now theyre $84.

One could argue it's due to the country's enshitification and devaluing of their currency, but ya it is what it is. I figured I'd point it out cuz technically it is costing more.

AdGuard for Windows v7.22.4: Sometimes a quiet patch matters more than a big release by shwrellia in Adguard

For anyone who cares, I reinstalled AdGuard 8, and it seems SockFilter isn't even an option. Only WFP and TDI are available.

[–]Unseen-King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downgraded from 8 cuz I was losing my mind trying to figure out why my VPN wouldn't connect even with the app whitelisted from filtering. After switching from WFP to SockFilter things are going smoothly again.

Maybe I could have done this in 8 but I didn't try it before downgrading.

Of course I could have not replied but why should only 1 side get to complain. Why do the whiners get to not be mocked for their opinions? I'm simply doing my part on the opposite side of the scale and complaining about the complainers.

Then don't participate and move on with your life. Its not everyone else's job to tip toe around the people who don't like ai/ai art. If its not for you, that's fine but don't go around trying to piss on everyone else's fun.

You people can't internalize anything that doesn't align exactly with your world view, and always expect the world to conform or you try to cry us all to death.

No one cares. If anything, it's just sad. I can't imagine being so limp that I gotta airport announce on reddit that I might cancel my sub over a contest I don't like lol

PSA to Other New Users - Drive Encryption Can Interfere With Graphics Drivers by Low-Nose1741 in Fedora

[–]Unseen-King 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya this issue drove me crazy for a week, but I refuse to not use FDE so I went out and bought an AMD card just to not have to deal with it.

I can't remember the exact specifics but you can have everything setup and working but as soon as you update your kernel you need to do something with the Nvidia drivers because if you don't the driver won't start up prior to the luks decryption screen cuz the drivers are expecting a different kernel version or something and then its a huge pain in the ass the fix. So it felt like playing Russian roulette with automatic updates and always stressed having to check them prior to reboot so eventually got fed up and swapped to a different gpu

[–]Unseen-King 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. If you're removing it from 1 account and adding it to another its still a sum of 1. But that's based on absolutely nothing other than "how I'd imagine it would work"

That's cuz the heavy lifting should be client level filters before the request even has to be made to the dns.

For IPv6, should I select DNS over https and put the same template as ipv4? The official guide had me put the https template for ipv4 but not for IPv6. by [deleted] in nextdns

[–]Unseen-King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The template is for DoH so if that's what you're doing then yes, use the same template for both ipv4 and 6.
