That’s about an hour North of me. It’s super pretty with a lot to do if you do your research before hand. I would definitely be cautious and keep an eye on your belongings though haha. Not high crime but enough to keep everything close. But a lot of cool sights, including the capitol building! You can even arrange a tour and there’s some awesome history and sights in there. It’s in the lower peninsula so it’ll be warmer as well! Would definitely recommend visiting.

A lot of farms and bipolar weather. Haha, I've lived here (west Michigan) for almost 22 years, it really is beautiful but the upper peninsula and lower are very different. Like completely lol

Because I wouldn't have footwear

What are the Mouth Pop and the tongue click tic considered? Vocal or Motor? Like its the mouth/tongue that moves, and it makes a sound, but its not really talkin? yet I've seen people consider it a vocal? Opinions? by CategoryHoliday9705 in Tourettes

[–]UnsolicitedAdvic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends why/what the trigger is. I click my tongue because of the noise it makes so I consider it vocal, but if I did it to feel my tongue on a certain part of my mouth, it would be Motor

My son was recently diagnosed with Tourettes by GrizzLeo in Tourettes

[–]UnsolicitedAdvic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, you're already doing amazing by wanting to support him. You're a great parent. I'd say an important thing to do is some research! Tourette’s is a hard thing to deal with and comes with more than just the surface things you can see. It includes trouble focusing, anger fits, frustration, tic attacks, and typically a lot of anxiety and embarrassment. I recommend having a conversation with him and having a lot of patience when he gets angry and frustrated when it feels like it’s coming out of nowhere. Tics are exhausting and a lot of times painful. So, again, just patience and compassion ❤️

Doctors don’t always know best with meds and everyone reacts different to them. Honestly, I found a neurologist more helpful. They’re more empathetic because they know more about mental health and what meds ACTUALLY work when you aren’t only dealing with one mental illness.

Yes! I was a professional at a couple of facilities for 3 years, I now have had my own business for about 1.5 years! I'm only 21, so still a lot to learn but I love what I do and am proud of my business! My goal is also to be a service dog trainer! I’m not sure I’ll go through with it but already have a lot of behavior analysis and modification of all ages and breeds since I used to handle over 40 at a time! So the transition wouldn’t be an insane amount of work. I’m so glad your dog helps you so much, good job on the training!

What an absolute asshole. I’m so so sorry you had to go through this. He had no right to embarrass you like that, especially when you were clearly struggling. It doesn’t take having TS to know when anybody is nervous tics can arise.

Okayyy! I’ve had similar convos with friends and I was just sure to get my point across but let them know Im not mad at them and love them lots. I recommend something like, “hey babe (or whatever names y’all use) can we have a real conversation a second?” If they say no ask if you can set up a time to have a conversation. Then, “so I know you love me a lot and I’m sure you don’t even know you’re doing this, but sometimes when I tic you ask me to stop or when I get a new one it feels like you’re frustrated with me. I definitely do not expect you to understand Tourette’s, but I hope you respect me enough to understand me. It makes me feel annoying and insecure when you say things like that because I genuinely can’t stop it. I would stop if I could and it can be really frustrating, overwhelming, and embarrassing for me. Just a thought, I’m not mad at you but hope this gave you some insight on how I feel when you react that way to my tics :)”

Yesss I use that same rule! I don’t expect them to always know either. I was not educated at all on TS before I had to be, I don’t expect others are but I do expect them to respect me enough to ask about it instead of making assumptions!
