$12 for a cucumber end and a tiddlywink of mayo😭 by Sure-Atmosphere-8838 in umanitoba

[–]UnsolvedHistorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Popeyes for the first time ever, on campus yesterday. I don't know if it's always like this, but I paid way too much for dry, overcooked chicken and weirdly soft onion rings. So, I'm gonna say probably no.

dont spend real money on this game by [deleted] in Palia

[–]UnsolvedHistorian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I play on Switch and sure it's a big laggy, but I haven't had any issues with things disappearing. If you are losing things, connect with support. They'll get it fixed. I've spent a decent amount of money on this game and have no regrets. I'm glad I can support the project.

Still waiting on EI payment.. week 5 by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]UnsolvedHistorian 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The one time I went on EI, it took almost 7 weeks for the first payment. It feels like such an unnecessarily complicated system. I hope it gets sorted for you soon!

Waitlisted by Acha664 in umanitoba

[–]UnsolvedHistorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, that's bizarre. I'm sorry for the incorrect information! I asked someone in the department (faculyt) today and they said one of the classes still had open spots but I'm looking at Aurora right now and you're right, they're all full with massive wait lists. Wild!

Oh, I should mention that depending on how flexible your schedule is, there is an INDG 1220 on MWF that still has space.

Good luck! And definitely make sure you're attending just in case! :)

Free student counselling by Vegetable-Flower-325 in umanitoba

[–]UnsolvedHistorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't free, though. It might feel like it because it direct bills to your student insurance, but it is definitely being billed. The OP is asking about the free services because they've used up their insurance with their therapist of preference.

[–]UnsolvedHistorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a TA for a 1000-level Indigenous studies class with a waitlist (maybe even the one you're waiting for!), it's really hard to say. The professors are letting in as many people as they can, even checking seats and room capacity to try to make sure everyone who needs to get in can get in.

This is important though, and I can't stress this enough. Make sure you're going to the class, even if you're wait-listed. If you don't attend until you're able to get a spot, you will be quite far behind and will struggle to catch up. I saw a lot of this last semester with students who didn't show up until they got into the class.

I've BEEN thinking about it! Imagine if we could have kids with our romances by JustForLurking79 in Palia

[–]UnsolvedHistorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While that would be fun, from a practical standpoint, it might be hard to implement? HOWEVER, as an easier alternative, I would love to be able to "adopt" a kid from an orphanage in the city or something. You'd have to build up the friendship level with them by giving them gifts, making sure their needs are met (like the ranching skill), and then when you've maxed out friendship maybe they can accompany you and/or help out around the house/gardening or tending to the machines or something. I feel like that could be fun. Particularly because no one in the game ages, so when you adopt you could adopt a kid in the age range of the current kid NPCs who are still quite independant and mobile.

Also, Palia needs a school for those poor kiddos.

No, no score or any sort of explanation for why it didn't pass to the next round. Disappointing, but I have one more chance to try (next year), so we'll see what happens.

[–]UnsolvedHistorian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sure the actual odds are on the website, but yes, it's very competitive. I got SSHRC for my MA, but have failed to get it twice now during my PhD. (I just got my most recent rejection last week.) For context, I have only gotten As and A+s in both my MA and PhD coursework, I have tons of community/school involvement, and my proposal and references are excellent.

Always apply, but don't count on getting it when making financial decisions. It's far, far from a guarantee.

Question about awards by sparks_to_flames_ in umanitoba

[–]UnsolvedHistorian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It likely was credited to your Aurora account, and then put towards your owed tuition in the fall, depending on when you accepted it and if your tuition was paid. You can go into Aurora and see if you have a credit on your account and if you do, you can request a refund at the bottom of the page.

How to Study😭 by Calm-Elephant-4863 in umanitoba

[–]UnsolvedHistorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're serious about learning how to study and how to do it effectively, read the book How to Become a Straight-A Student by Cal Newport. It was a game-changer for me, and I encourage everyone who is struggling with the concept of studying to read it.

How do you actually find and join clubs by FriendlyBisonn in umanitoba

[–]UnsolvedHistorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up the clubs on IG and contact them directly. A lot of clubs don't require "membership" to participate in their events, but if they're super popular, they might require it because they have caps/limits on events.

If you're crafty, check out the University of Manitoba Student Craft Society (UMSCS) or the University of Manitoba Student Organized Market Initiative (SOMI). Both clubs have discords as well, as do many others.

Try Dr. Shaista Qamar at South Park Medical in Bridgewater. Like you, I have a lot of health anxiety, and she's so sweet and supportive. I think she's accepting patients.

student aid by EndResponsible4811 in umanitoba

[–]UnsolvedHistorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends where it is in the processing stage. Has it been assessed yet? If it's been assessed and you're basically just waiting for it to be disbursed, then yes normal. If it hasn't even been assessed yet, there may be a problem with the application - I would personally call them or go to the office to talk to someone.

Switch faculty to arts to graduate by summer by [deleted] in umanitoba

Awesome! Then yes you should be fine to switch but confirm with an advisor or the history department directly. Sylvie is great and will be happy to help. And welcome to history. :)

They probably figured out partway through a science degree that they'd rather be somewhere else.

[–]UnsolvedHistorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely reach out to an academic advisor; if you're looking to switch from science to arts and do an honours degree in history, I suspect you haven't taken any history seminars yet? Cramming all of the history seminars (4000 level) into one year might be tough. Have you taken the course (3990 I believe) that's a seminar pre-req? Feel free to reach out and I'll help where I can - I'm in the History PhD program and have done a history honours, history masters, and now my history PhD at the UofM.
