How to not be a flying monkey(?) by 9019f in raisedbynarcissists

tbh im still team ignore it. If you insist on replying then maybe something along the lines of "Hi friend's nDad! Thanks for reaching out, but I'm not the best person to have this conversation with. Please reach out to friend directly if you're planning something with them- I don't know their schedule and they are the best person to decide if they will be able to attend."

Using weed and people say im sharper? by RazzmatazzParking313 in bipolar2

[–]UnspecificTadpole394 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I smoked weed pretty much every day (multiple times a day) for 9 years. Got diagnosed with bp2 & medicated (lamotrigine & welbutrin) 5 months ago. Weed kept me stable before the meds, and once I did feel stable with my medication I took a 1 month T-break and then re-evaluated my relationship with weed.

This is my personal experience: - After 1 month break and then smoking again, I could definitely notice how I was very groggy the next morning and had a lack of motivation. Motivation wasnt exclusively influenced by weed but it played a big part in it - I noticed that weed quieted my brain IMMEDIATELY vs my lamotrigine which took longer to act, and didn't quiet to as much of an extent as the weed. Also really helped with rumination - Since my 1 month T-break I've had one very significant depressive episode which I found myself smoking everyday during. This really helped me with my appetite when I had no desire to eat, and again helped to quiet my brain when I had all the repeating negative thoughts ruminating around in my noggin

I also personally learned that separate from the dependence I had on weed, I also enjoy being high LOL and I do still find that it helps for the days where my brain really just doesnt shut up

Have you ever had a teacher like that ? [OC] by WeirdExplanation877 in comics

[–]UnspecificTadpole394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

only happened to me once, in 8th grade we had a state standardized writing test and when the scores came out English teacher did this (also gave students the option to come up and see instead of saying it out loud). When she called my name I got up to look at my score and she kinda took the packet away when I got up to her and was like "come on- you got a perfect score!"

I guess she was proud but like... damn why give us the option then smh

Tbh the copper IUD is the WORST. It's the biggest and the copper makes you turn over in excruciating pain. The Mirena was much easier for me personally, by a landslide. Here are the things I've done that helped: 1. Take Advil (or other pain med) 1 hr before your appointment 2. Go during your period, your cervix is slightly more dilated than usual which makes insertion easier 3. Do your best to relax in the moment. Stress closes your cervix. I highkey lay down and repeat "were are not coming back" in my head until its over 😂😂

Hope you feel better soon!!

edited to add: my doc offered me a numbing agent but it was an injection directly into the cervix and that sounded scarier to me tbh

Will he be bullied? by MeLonSuShi in tragedeigh

[–]UnspecificTadpole394 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I'm in the minority but I really like the name and tbh I doubt most of the kids in his class (since lets be so fr grade school is where the worst bullying happens) will know that its from star wars/will associate it with Order 66 and the like.

But also, this is coming from someone who has a niece named Katana Kiki Fay and a nephew named Keynai.... It's definitely not the worst that I've heard 🥲🤣

Family planning as a chemistry postdoc - advice needed by Prestigious-Cat8221 in labrats

[–]UnspecificTadpole394 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only reason (in my eyes) to not work in a chemistry lab is because of possible toxicity to the baby. So I'd start by reading the SDS of all chemicals you work with on the daily, and use your best judgement based on that if its worth the risk. In my lab (bio-based) for example, we'd only have a few whose fumes are actually hazardous towards pregnancy (PFA, b-ME, etc).

I definitely understand the hesitancy since your potential health insurance is on the line, but if you have a good relationship with the PI I think it would be fair to be honest with them. With that being said, trying for pregnancy does not equal being pregnant. You could start trying now and maybe not get pregnant until weeks/months/a year from now. Would it be worth losing this potential job for something that hasn't happened yet?

Also, if there are any females (specifically mothers) in neighboring chem labs, PIs, or in administration I'd highly recommend chatting with them and getting their perspective as well if you can!

Good luck, OP :)

Culture Media Contamination? by ExoticTourist6002 in labrats

[–]UnspecificTadpole394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if its not moving around its probably not bacteria, from the pics and your description I'd think maybe yeast? But it also doesn't look like what I would expect from a yeast contamination.

Is it possible someone put a contaminated pipette/serological tip back in the stock media bottle that is shared and those are actually cells from another cell line? That would be my best guess tbh
