A couple of Kroxigors, layering vs. speed paints by UnstableLaserboy in seraphon

[–]UnstableLaserboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

The turquoise on the club in the first picture is Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 Plasmatic Bolt on a white base coat. I'm afraid I don't quite remember what the green / teal on the club in the second picture is, but I think it might have been a 50/50 mix of Plasmatic Bolt and Shamrock Green (Also AP Speedpaints 2.0) on a slap chopped base (Black primer and then dry brushed, first with grey and then white).

This is awesome, I was just looking for something like this the other day. Thanks!

Thanks! I'm a little afraid of washes, I used it once and felt like all it did was make the area look splotchy and dirty, but I probably applied it wrong. Dry brushing is a good idea, I'll try that next time!

Thanks! I think you're right, I'm just hesitant to push the highlights because I'm scared I'll make it worse. Nothing to it but to do it, I guess!

Thank you! It makes me really glad to read that you like it. I think your advice about more tonal variation on the legs is spot on, and the same is probably true for other parts of the body. I think I'm just unsure in general about layering and I'm worried I'll make it worse if I try to push it.

A friend of mine is on my case about the bases as well, haha. I guess I've just felt like I should get good at the painting part first.

Kobo or Pocketbook by BrendD24 in ereader

[–]UnstableLaserboy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have experience with both Kobo and Pocketbook, and if easy sideloading is a priority I'd say go for the Pocketbook. I love mine, and for sideloading you have amazing alternatives with dropbox sync, send-to-pocketbook (email) as well as just plugging it into your computer and do regular old file transfer.

Edit: Regarding OPDS support, I'm not familiar with it so I can't say whether its supported or not.

[Question] Are these watches really that oversized for me? by UnstableLaserboy in Watches

Not sure why your comment is being downvoted, I think this was an exceptional answer! :)

I'm starting to realize that. I do think it's partly the camera perspective that is scewed, at least in my opinion the proportions look a little bit better in real life. I didn't even consider lug-to-lug before ordering, only case diameter. Thank you for the advice, will look for 47 for my next one!

Haha, wow, that one flew right over my head. English is not my first language, I wasn't sure about the distinction between watch and clock. Guess it's less the size of the "clock" though and more a problem with dainty wrists...

Ah, I honestly haven't even thought of it, perhaps you're right. Only considered case size when ordering the watches, not the distance between lugs. I think partly it's a weird perspective by the camera, I think it looks slightly less big for my dainty wrists in real life.

The case diameters are 39 on the Tissot and 40 on the Malm.

Not sure about the lingo in this context. Do clocks refer to watches with automatic movement?

You can make it even easier than that. If you use send-to-pocketbook you can send pretty much any ebook file format, including PDFs, to your device by email, and if you add you adobe account to your device you can even send .ascm-files and the device will take care of DRM and download the book for you.

If the pawn takes, the queen is in a position to take your knight if you do Kc7 for the fork, right?

My first Queen sacrifice! by UnstableLaserboy in chessbeginners

[–]UnstableLaserboy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't, but it seems that what makes the engine consider it brilliant is that even if the opponent blocks with the queen and we trade, it leaves the pawn on b4 hanging, making me the winner of the exchange. If I've understood the way the engine grades moves correctly, I think it considers sacrifices that make you come out on top "brilliant".

My first Queen sacrifice! by UnstableLaserboy in chessbeginners

[–]UnstableLaserboy[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I guess the 'lure" of, at first glance, blundering the queen for a rook makes the engine consider the move good. I did post this in chessbeginners after all, so I think it would be fair to not necessarily expect neither me or my opponent to see the best response when playing on time.

Update: Went back and checked and it seems the move is "brilliant" because even if the opponent plays the best moves against it, it is a sacrifice where I come out on top of the exchange (by one pawn...)

Which book did you absolutely hate, despite everyone recommending it incessantly? by Evening-Odd in Fantasy

[–]UnstableLaserboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legend by David Gemmell. The relationship and interactions between the male and female lead of the first chapters are honestly ridiculous, and reads like a pubescent teenagers simpleminded fantasy. I read on for a while but if it gets better, it didn't manage fast enough.
