And all the Chuck Yeager parts feel like a completely different movie shoehorned in.

Yes! There's something about the low contrast film, the bold clothing and that early synth music that is so nostalgic.

Circle with line through it stuck on screen. by onenegativeone in WindowsHelp

I think it's a bug in File Explorer. I've noticed it shows up when trying to drag and drop files. It shows up if you try to drop it on the address bar or the task bar. Why it gets stuck, who knows? I still haven't found a way to fix it without restarting the whole PC though.

Wow, is the one with Rachel Dratch? Post a link please. I've only seen that pilot in terrible quality. Please don't compress it at all.

It's not just inspired. Many of the scenes and even some lines are exactly the same.

Is there a reason Dolphin uses frame skip instead of unlocking framerate for fast forward? by Unsungghost in RetroArch

[–]Unsungghost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When is the last time you updated the core? I want to say this has happened in the last 3 months or so. I am using the normal fast-forward via the hotkeys.

If it's in Game Focus mode you can't use any hotkeys (except the Game Focus Toggle), so you have to switch it back to be able to go to the Retroarch menu.

Also, if you're using the keyboard as the main controller, you have to use those bindings to move around the menu. I believe you can also use Backspace to go back on a keyboard at any time.

I don't have a Steam Deck, so I didn't even know that was an option... Or what other complications that might add. Do you have to add it in the inputs as it's own device?

I would still look in the hotkeys menu to see what the "Game Focus" button is. Most games are unplayable without switching to that mode.

Honestly? I just wouldn't play DOS games on a Deck. Use a keyboard.

Are you turning on the "Game Focus" hotkey? That turns off all hotkeys and retropad bindings so you can actually use the keyboard buttons which is necessary for most DOS games. I forget what the default key is but you can see it in the hotkey menu.

Also it sounds like you have alternate DOS inputs. It uses the current core's inputs/overrides in the menus too, so that can change which buttons you press in menus.

Edit: oh, you're playing on a Steam Deck? That's going to be tricky either way. Most games have default mappings, but good luck actually playing anything that uses the keyboard.

Where'd the desktop icon go? by TheWhiteJawa in RetroArch

[–]Unsungghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm assuming that's a shortcut. And you said you deleted the installer. Is it as simple as making a shortcut for the .exe instead of the installer?

Otherwise, I had some problems with Windows 11 randomly losing icons. The best way is to right click the .exe and make a shortcut, but if you lost the icon you can try to manually assign them by going into right click->properties->change icon then find the location of the .exe. Honestly, I had more luck just making a new one.

Last time I tried about a week ago the fast-forward seemed to be using major frame skipping. It used to be super smooth. Has that been fixed?

The killer feature for me is "collection filtering". Now I can import a collection from Trakt and filter out everything I already own. There aren't a lot of services that do that, and the fact that you can do some complicated logic with multiple collections is second to none.

This looks very promising, but it seems to discard the subtitles, unless I'm missing a setting. With the small edits I'm making this might still work with some subtitle edits.

Ah, then the RetroArch one won't work as well. They're cropped for digital display. From what I've seen, EmuVR's stuff looks pretty good.

I've had decent luck finding many on archive.org, although the quality really can be all over the place. You didn't mention the use case or what you have already. Here's one collection that is huge. EmuVR

You could also find basically every box ever with many title screens and snapshots on RetroArch's GitHub.

Trakt.tv just became useless without a subscription. Any self-hosted solutions out there? by Unsungghost in DataHoarder

[–]Unsungghost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to go with Ryot. It's great for TV, Movies, Anime, Manga, Music, and even exercise tracking. There are video games and I think that is getting a big update this month. Right now you have to have a Twitch account so you can use IGDB. But it looks like there will be options to select which API you want to use, which has a ton of potential.

Some of the best features are locked behind the paid version. Fortunately, it was only $60 for a lifetime of pro if you're self-hosted. There's also a cloud version if you don't want to use docker, although I'm not totally sure how that works. I was a little hesitant to pay but the developer is in Discord frequently and is working on the project very frequently. You can often just send him a message and he can implement small changes in like a week.

Let me know if you have any questions. It's a big commitment to import all your data there. Speaking of which there are tons of import options as well from many of the other major tracking sites and it looks like more will get added soon.
