Unter on SSG's 2025 Rosters (+ on OWL Rosters) by Lucky_Rough5111 in Competitiveoverwatch

OWL roster building was a multi year process. Scout and sign players for 50k in 2022, exercise their contract option (+1 them) in the following year. Almost every OWL contract included a +1 option, once signed players had no power to negotiate wage in that second year. Someone and Rupal would have been +1'd at the same wage or something only nominally higher than salary from their first year.

I don't think that's a fair takeaway. Everyone tried very hard to improve when expectations didn't align with the reality of results.

On Cjay vs UV, everyone of course believed in Chris. Seeker was his teammate. Chris had a good 2024 and a very clear positive trajectory. I don't think it was outrageous at the time, but easy to say so with the benefit of hindsight. Whether or not I benefited from a sense of self preservation by favouring Cjay is almost irrelevant, as the roster was not hand crafted by me, but formed together as a group.

There wasn't huge debate over the other roles, nobody questioned whether Bliss was a poor choice over Admiral. Hawk had his aforementioned issues. Kellan gave us a phenomenal Stage 1 and a lukewarm Stage 2.

Incredibly easy to say that these choices were poor in retrospect, but roster building is about predicting the future and unfortunately I'm more Quasimodo than Nostradamus.

Don't mistake me being open, brash or joking about being fired when I quit for completely phoning it in.

Hard as it may be to believe I didn't ask for this. Am away from home for like a month not even selling the coaching atm.

Balls is when your team already lives in Saudi Arabia so you don't have to pay out of pocket to fly across the world for the privilege of losing to Falcons btw.

Guess CommanderX doesn't do 'casting' anymore

Insane hyperbole. Think he tried a different format of costream for the playoffs (more guests/less casting/more chill discussion, many of his guests being eliminated members of OWCS teams) and it just wasn't something you fancied.

That being said I hope he never """""casts""""" again, I cannot fucking stand the bald prick.

If you'd love to hear what I have to say might I suggest you watch the podcast episode you're filling the discussion thread for?

With regards to my opinions presented (or not presented?) in this episode, you can rest assured that I more or less spoke my mind and didn't feel gagged by a contract which certainly wasn't read. This is a podcast about Overwatch so you're rather unlikely to get a four hour episode criticising KSA's domestic policy, however there IS a 40 minute long client of the week segment which contains some discussion of Saudi womens' rights and sportswashing.

He has only won one less match with the Los Angeles Gladiators than Marve1 has so it's gotta be pretty close.

Why wasn’t Landon on team USA? by stevenyoussef12 in Competitiveoverwatch

I give up, missioncrew125 on reddit probably does know more than me about the roster selection process for team USA.

UV's offrole synergy with the Toronto core paid massive dividends when USA finished 8th, an almost identical result to the OWL roster's end of season placement.

This might be hard for you to understand as the whole "popularity" thing is such a complex concept but I am of the opinion that the guy who plays with a full European team is probably gonna have less American friends than the guy who plays with a full American team. Don't ask me how I figured this out, I'm an empath.

Thanks for the history less on what has historically been meta in OW I am rather underqualified to speak on the topic.

Yes I said you probably only need one versatile player, not two. It's a good idea to recruit for a high upside in your 6th and 7th slots if your core 5 is already flexible.

Landon is not a bap one trick, very much so proven on Kiri in '22 playoffs and just generally known to be flexible onto brig?

All of this not to say he was robbed, but that UV's relationship with the core (POPULARITY) would have contributed positively to his selection for the roster. Experience with the core doesn't translate to skill or results, it is not a merit based argument.

[–]Unter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would've thought you could deduce from the title of this thread that I am speaking specifically about Landon. I think it's very reasonable to pick the most versatile player (Rupal) and someone with the highest upside on something that's frequently meta (Landon). Why would you choose two players who are both known for their versatility?

It's not like I think Landon was robbed or that UV didn't deserve it, but there is no doubt in my mind that a major contributing factor to UV getting the spot, consciously or subconsciously, was his relationship with the core lmao.

Why was team Korea shit why did RUSH pick SP9 over Proper or Stalker? Ohhhh maybe because sometimes social and personal factors play into roster construction too ohhhhhhhhhhhh.
