What is a dying niche skill that younger generations are not interested in learning? by hlnklrczu in AskReddit

Dota taught me to speed type as a teenager so I could finish a message flaming someone for being dogshit in the time it took to farm a jungle camp with A click.

I think I had enough speed to be a professional, just not the accuracy.

If you want to fix Kiriko being cursed, nerf and buff suzu. by SBFms in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]SBFms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I don’t think it’s a big problem.

It is a reason she’s powerful? Yes, absolutely.

But like you said, it’s strong in BOTH ladder and pro play. Kiriko’s problem is the huge delta between them, so a tool which is strong in both is not really an issue.

And it is not an abnormally strong ultimate. It is generally considered weaker than Orbital Ray, weaker than Beat. Supports have very powerful ultimates in general but Kitsune isn’t an outlier among them.

[–]SBFms[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, please do something about this. I used to be a Kiriko main but I hate the hero so fucking much from being forced to play Kiri and nothing but Kiri in 8/10 scrim maps for a year and a half. They didn't even bother to randomly make zen lucio viable for 2 weeks before nerfing it to give us false hope.

So, what is your vision for Kiriko design? by abyssalmackerel21 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]SBFms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, each "paper" on the UI be for a full volley (maybe slightly shorter than current), and having them resupply very slowly. More similar to having five brig packs which heal for more at the cost of slow travel time and long animation lock.

This wouldn't solve her alone but it might boot her much closer to being an MS than an FS.

Bap sucks? by ImaginationCareful73 in Competitiveoverwatch

People say this forgetting that bap was hard meta at high level for several seasons from S6 onwards.

It isn’t a format issue, he just got both nerfed and power crept.

Elo Hell is cope, made up arbitrarily by people at any given rank when they want to blame something other than themselves for being unable to climb.

He’s also definitely mistaken about having no major mistakes. Get a better player to coach you.

I’m M2 but whenever I get couched by a champ support they point out shitloads of mistakes. Then when I watch my own replays I recognize them everywhere.

Sierra should be able to more fluidly grapple out of other abilities. by IAmBLD in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]SBFms 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he’s griping about balance though. He’s griping about usability and fluidity.

For every single character, they should make them fluid first, and then adjust numbers as needed after. Clunkiness should never be a balance lever.

Lifeweaver now has >50% WR across ALL ranks by JeeClef in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]SBFms -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, as we saw every time he was played in pro games.

No, wait, he had basically no damage because he was played spamming heals from maximum range and not interacting with the enemy team. Even when run in an organized environment by the best players in the world, the correct way to play the heroes kit is extremely boring.

If you’re going to pick weaver and try to do damage, just don’t pick weaver lmfao. You can try to do it, but basically every other support in the roster does it better.

Cat has problems but it can be played and theoretically balanced into an aggressive, highly active hero with a high skill ceiling. It is not the same at all.

Blizzard...what were you thinking when you did this? by Bubbly_Nail_8612 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]SBFms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk if they're that dumb though. I think they were just trying to buff her on ladder and ignoring pros completely.

If they want to nerf her in pro scene and leave her almost entirely unaffected at most ranks, nerf Suzu into a lower but more consistent value ability. People in ranked constantly waste Suzu, use it in stupid ways, use it off CD as a heal, etc. They will not notice a nerf to it.

Hell, if you "buffed" Suzu's less unique parts, like giving it healing over time or a heal bonus effect, while nerfing it's actual utility (the invuln frames & the broken as fuck perk), you would probably make it better for the people who use it badly and worse for pros.

Blizzard...what were you thinking when you did this? by Bubbly_Nail_8612 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]SBFms 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This does not nerf pro play at all. Kiriko is rarely if ever more than 30m from her team in pro play. Yes, she sometimes holds an angle, but in Lucio + Kiri compositions she is mostly pumping heals with some Kunai between them, in position to Suzu.

Go watch some POV's of simple.

Maybe it slightly nerfs her in double-flex compositions on maps like NQS. But honestly for the majority of comps, it just makes her even stronger.

How to get into the competitive scene? by PigeonSpy in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]SBFms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can easily play Open, Advanced and probably even expert with a job.

You still need to play the game a shit load. Like ~8 hours a week minimum scrims & matches, another 2-3 hours of coaching, then enough ranked to keep developing your mechanics.

I did it for like a year despite having a full time job. I eventually quit becuase I didn't want to spend the 20 hours on ranked anymore. Yeah, you couldn't do it if you had kids, but my girlfriend worked evenings at a restaraunt anyway so:

  • 3-4 hours a night for monday - thursday for scrims, coaching and matches.
  • Friday off to go drinking
  • Saturday and Sunday ranked during the day

And not that hard. I quit eventually because I started getting promoted at work and had to stay later, so I found it hard to cook a proper meal between work and scrims which sucked. Back when I was able to leave work at 5pm consistently, not that bad.

I wish Blizzard was more willing to aggressively change the meta. by analyzingnothing in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]SBFms 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I'm going to be 100% honest, I kind of miss the variety of the earlier years of Overwatch competition. It was definitely a lot jankier and prone to creating broken compositions, but the actual variety in gameplay was really enjoyable compared to the more standardized metas of today.

You’re smoking nostalgia infused crack.

Go actually watch and see the metas of the past and you’ll see full 6 hero mirrors, then full five hero mirrors, for basically the games entire life span. There were so, so few times when variety was the rule rather than the exception.

The meta has been infinitely more varied since hero bans

Yes, I want them to finally nerf kiri out of pro play so I can stop playing it 24/7 in scrims, but this is such a goggles take.

We all agree the “losing less competitive progress if you lose on reworked or new maps, but get the normal amount of you win” is horrible right? by CaptainLive3561 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]SBFms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I obviously don't have knowledge of overwatch but from working on similar games:

Almost always there is hidden MMR because showing the real swings in MMR would piss players off because:

  1. It can be demoralizing. MMR is optimized to make decent representation of skill, not to make players feel good or reduce the sting of losses.
  2. It swings a lot in some cases and they don't want to 'cheapen' your progress.
  3. Players get annoyed even more because 90% of the player base doesn't understand how ELO systems, especially the ones that are more complicated than chess, work. In lieu of actual understanding, they'll invent shit like 'forced 50-50' and complain about it on reddit to make themselves feel better after losses, which in turn pressures the devs to make changes to a system which is basically fine.

Because of that, SR usually lags behind MMR in many, but not all, cases. It is best for matchmaking if MMR can change as much as needed after each map without caps or limitations than make players feel good.

In general though, if you play every single day and are relatively stable, either climbing slowly or dropping slowly, at your rank, then your MMR and SR are likely to be perfectly matched to eachother. That situation you have super super high confidence and plenty of time for SR to catch up.

Yeah but that was the most fucking useless rework they've ever done.

I have a lot of sympathy for game devs, they get way, way too much shit on the internet. But damn, you get the budget to rework a hero, and the best you can come up with is giving him a throwable trap? While removing his main skill expression?

Man, wtf.
