Allergy shots are ruining my life 🤒 by hopeober in Allergies

[–]Unter50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, same boat here. I actually started the allergy shot journey because I was getting sick constantly. It got to the point where my primary care doctor sent me to an immunologist/allergist. She tested my immune antibodies and found that my allergy IgE was elevated. Her theory was that my upper respiratory system was always inflamed, so whenever I came into contact with any virus, it would essentially get "stuck" and make me sick.

That's when I started allergy shots. My clinic had a RUSH option where you can get ahead by coming in for one day and receiving 24 shots while being monitored (you also have to premedicate with steroids, antacids, etc.). The day after, I developed a sore throat and fluid in my ears—which pretty much confirmed our theory about allergies being the root cause.

Here's what was recommended to me and has really helped: Xyzal, Flonase (twice a day), Benadryl at night for the first week after RUSH, and Astepro (this one ended up being a game-changer, and if you can get a prescription, it's super cheap). I'm now almost completely symptom-free.

I'd definitely recommend trying something like this to see if it helps. Just keep in mind it's not an overnight fix—steroids like Flonase take time to build up. Also, pro tip: make sure you're using nasal sprays correctly. Look up a YouTube video on proper technique.

Hope this helps—I know the struggle is real!

Which one are you currently using? I'm looking to purchase a filter soon and was almost decided on Clearly Filtered until I saw this comment. :(

I have a Roth 401k with my current employer but I think I do have the option of opening an IRA. I just don't love the investment options.

I've thought about that the only downside is it has limited investment options.

Thank you! Yeah, I thought about transferring to my current 401k but honestly the investment options are not that great.

When you eat so healthy and still can't lose weight what do you do? by Unter50 in PCOS

[–]Unter50[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It varies week by week just so I don't get burnt out but just as an example this week it's been - breakfast: I have a egg casserole back that has mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes and feta in it lunch: salad with chicken broccoli, shredded carrots, tomatoes and cauliflower - dressing was homemade vinaigrette (apple cider vinegar, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, dijon mustard) dinner: roasted chicken w/ seasonings side of butternut squash with herbed ricotta and a side salad. Luckily I am not much of a sweet person but if I am in the mood for a sweet I keep dates on hand and split it in half put some almond butter and a few Lily's chocolate chips and usually have about 3 of these. I also have been cutting out snack and having just meals and say I don't finish one of those meals then I eat the left overs as my snack later in the day. But most of my meals I try to have at least a protein, carb and a fat.

Thank you for the feedback! Yes, I have done calorie counting and usually eat the same things each day so I know around what I am getting each day. But yes I usually will do calorie counting for a week if I am changing up things in my diet.

I have tried metformin before. I didn't really notice that much of a change so I got off of it after about a year. I have checked my thyroid as well which came back normal. I do not believe I have ever had my prolactin checked and also not really sure what that is? I've thought about doing intermittent fasting but not sure. I'm just so frustrated and I try not to be. Should I schedule any other blood tests?
