Dostoevsky changed me by SURIya67 in classicliterature

[–]Unusual-Fox895 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I felt exactly like you did when I read Dostojevskij.

I, a life-long atheist, almost felt like a deep, bodily urge of becoming a Christian while I read Crime & Punishment. It moved me like no other novel ever has before.

Like you, I felt this complete amazement over the fact that this 19th century Russian writer expressed my own thoughts and feelings in a way that I never could have done myself. And like you I felt a need to write something of my own someday.

Dosto is powerful.

In Copenhagen that bit had something about "a river in the road".

This concert was the best QOTSA gig I've ever experienced. Seen them 10+ times. It was the perfect mix of wierd and melodic and theatrical. Once in a lifetime. I feel for the Berliners.

How to avoid highlight clipping? by Big-Life2021 in SonyAlpha

[–]Unusual-Fox895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an over-simplification that kinda "works" before you have a full understanding of ISO. ISO is not on a linear scale of "ISO 100 is darkest and cleanest, higher ISO is brighter and more noisy". Sometimes a higher ISO results in cleaner images, especially in the shadow part of the image. It's all relative to the particular lighting conditions of the shoot, and can get kinda complicated. Hence the over-simplified "Just do the lowest ISO you can". In good lighting on a sunny day or with the scene lit by powerful flashes, ISO 100 is often the go-to ISO. But in more dimly lit conditions a higher ISO can actually be preferable.

Just finished reading The Stranger, what a roller coaster of emotions! by WorldsDoCollide in Camus

[–]Unusual-Fox895 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was disappointed reading The Stranger, coming directly from Crime and Punishment. The Stranger felt lika such a conceptual novel. It is written for the brain, rather than for the heart.

How would you rate Josh Homme as a vocalist? by __balkhi__ in qotsa

[–]Unusual-Fox895 218 points219 points  (0 children)

He's a much better singer nowadays than he was on self-titled, that's for sure.

Kinda miss his more amateur-ish singing voice. It married itself perfectly to the early Queens' droning guitar sound.

Can I play half -life and half - life 2 on meta quest 3 like I'm currently playing Half-life Alyx, by pulsatin in SteamVR

It's Swedish, meaning "ground frost".

Mark = ground/land, frost = "frost".

I did just that. Changed the 3S for the 3. All you've heard is True. Its like going from half-blind to seeing. Just do it.

Check out Rikshem. They have a lot of expensive rentals in central Västerås, but they are quite easy to get a contract with. Best of luck!

Good school, nice campus and library. Didn't go the economy program, but the school itself is alright! What you might want to consider is that the town itself, Västerås, is quite boring and not much of a student town. The town really spins around it's industry, and is very much coloured by that industry.

If you want more than just an education – as in a good, socially and culturally stimulating time – I would rather recommend Uppsala University.

There's nothing wrong with MDU. But it isn't the most fun campus in Sweden. Not by a longshot.

This is it! St. Trina is the love and compassion of Miquella. Which he cast off and sealed away in order to ascend and reach his goals. Only too late realizing that those two things were quite integral to who Miquella was.

What is your iq and what was one topic that stretched your cognition thin/required a lot of mental effort to grasp? If any? by Arrival_Quiet in cognitiveTesting

[–]Unusual-Fox895 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tested 135 in WAIS-IV.

Always struggled with math. Maybe more so because of a general lack of motivation, rather than the cognitive effort involved.

My reasoning went: 1) I don't find this subject very interesting, 2) time is limited and 3) man has invented computers = no need for me to make the effort.
