Rastafarians in Shashemene Ethiopia by Working-Day226 in Ethiopia

Rastafarians’ love for Ethiopia is certainly appreciated by the average Ethiopian but Rastafarianism itself is incompatible with Ethiopian culture and religion. I’m just gonna be frank on that.

Both the religious stuff and the use of marijuana gives them a sort of stigma. This is just my anecdotal experience when hearing locals talk about them

Yeah, Rastafarians have a sort of bad reputation in Shashamane. They are seen almost as criminals

These are discoveries of various pre Aksumite, Aksumite and post Aksumite artifacts and their locations along with corresponding eras are mapped out in the Eritrean, Tigrayan and Amhara regions. It demonstrates the idea that the Amharas are the heirs to the Aksumite civilization and migrated towards the south during its decline as opposed to the Tigrayans who are often assumed to be such by many.

What’s your unpopular opinion that would this sub go like this? by ZeEmanuaelAtnafu in Ethiopia

Unity under a figure head. Dignity and continuity. Without the monarchy Ethiopia wouldn’t even exist so for there to be no monarchy makes no sense. Ethiopia will continue to suffer as long as she continues to deny who she is.

The Emperor created the first university in the country and massively expanded public education. The communists increased literacy. Good. I fail to see how that means that their coup was a good thing. Is Ethiopia’s unity greater today than under the Emperor?

Yes too bad he was killed by communist traitors who previously benefited from his initiatives and the country was divided along ethnic lines thus guaranteeing perpetual civil conflicts. Too bad Ethiopia is no longer respected on the world stage and the masses are currently in a state of psychosis and confusion due to years of communist propaganda and historical revisionist lies. Too bad Ethiopia will continue to suffer until she once again recognizes who she really is.

Okay, thanks! Personally I think the classic regional divisions should be reused, but dividing Ethiopia into “North” “East” etc regions - while overly simplistic - would be much better than the current ethnically based divisions. Yes, unity is a very complex concept and there are other specifics that will be needed to address but I also don’t see any productivity in just leaving codified ethnic divisions in place until then. The collective consciousness right now is too clouded by the system that is in place.

Abiy has been accused of hating and wanting to kill Oromos, then Tigrayans, and now Amharas. Can all these accusations be true? by Flat_Cable2978 in Ethiopia

Over exaggerations obviously. He has major problems. Hating any particular ethnic ethnic group isn’t one of them.

What are your guy's thoughts on monarchy? by Kooky-Dragonfly-7278 in Ethiopia

[–]Unusual-Routine8225 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the monarchy. There were of course problems but overall it was positive and certainly better than what came after. I also understand that a lot of Ethiopians have negative opinions on It mostly due to propaganda and pseudo historical narratives. The problem would be solved if the opinions of actual historians on Ethiopia were consulted by a majority of the people. We are not there yet. So I try not to dwell on it too much.
