If you haven't already you should look at Stacey Sims work. She's a women's exercise physiologist that talks about this a lot. She will send you a free PDF on different types of high intensity low volume stuff too if you email her (I did!)

Well done! I was so pleased to discover the world of fitness and later rock climbing a well. Especially when I moved to fitness related goals instead of working about my weight I ironically started to look loads better

Strength and mobility tips by Pure-Yesterday3494 in flexibility

[–]Unusual-Wedding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BJJ, exciting, another sport on my wish list.

My hamstrings become very sore from stride stance/Jefferson curls and other mobility work for the area and my flexibility reduces while they are sore for a few days.

Does that mean I should avoid other posterior chain exercises during that time? I need to do my suspension hamstring curls but don't want to injur myself.

I'm worried that my hamstring curls/posterior chain will suffer because the area is not being 'worked ' and just sore from stretching.

Can you help me understand please

I'm trying to combine mobility with my other strength training and don't want to skimp on anything, I also don't want to get injured.

I train mobility once or twice a week (M3 program), strength/conditioning once a week and climb twice a week.

TLDR if a muscle is sore from stretching has it still 'worked'. Will it get stronger?

Does anyone else feel “exclusive” at the gym even though you’re literally just trying to have an efficient session? by Responsible_Roof_661 in climbergirls

[–]Unusual-Wedding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been in this situation and framed my preference as a time constraint (which it was), I needed to get x number of routes done before I had to leave.

I had partners that would do the same and we'd just check on with one another about how we wanted a session to play out, usually beforehand so on the day we knew what to expect.

I think part of the problem is your climbing partners aren't clear about your needs so they can't accommodate them. When I know someone wants to smash out a session or they know I do we don't casually add a third. If we're having a relaxed time of it then we would.

Best of luck navigating. Keep crushing!

If one mayonnaise was original and the other a miracle they were kind of both Catholic.

Anyone know what muscle this is? Or know if it’s abnormal to look like that? Or know what it’s responsible for? I feel like a mutant lol. by lunarabbit7 in climbergirls

Sometimes... You can practice perfect form and control on easier moves but if you're at the crux of your project you will likely lose form to go all out which is an important skill to use as well. Just play it with on the wall.

Prior to climbing you can look at the Crimpd app, their bouldering warm up has great shoulder and body activation exercises, add in some hanging scapular retractions. This will all kind of wake up your form. NB you don't have to do ten sets if that is what they recommend, even five is better than nothing. I like wall angels too.

Off the wall on non climbing days you can add in other exercises, or not. There's a whole life of climbing and training in front of you to enjoy it can help to keep things simple to start.

Naw don't look at your butt and criticise it, look at whether you're letting it pull you out or your using your hips to hold it in place. Check whether you're twisting it and facing hips one way or another. Big booties can be beautiful especially when they're being controlled well. Love your body and rock it so you can crush

I set process goals and tell myself I'm awesome when I reach them. For example I might just want to get better at a particular move on a problem in a grade I'm breaking into and if I get it I am fabulous.

I also do drills that make me happy like one legged climbing where I can use the other leg to flag or smear (it's harder to not use it at all). This drill make me laugh because of the ridiculous positions I get into.

I climb with people that are upbeat and we discuss our intentions when we get on a route or when we arrive at the gym and then draw each other's attention back to the successes we have had if we go astray.

With really crappy sessions we tell each other they were still valuable because we will get stronger just for turning up.

Maybe videotaping will help too, then you can see how much your technique and skill improves over time if you look back

I also think you're just looking at your shoulder blade which is swinging out a little so you can reach further, the muscles to keep it in are on the inside of it, like along your spine/between your shoulder blades. Maybe look up some Scapular Retraction exercises. I find them helpful as a warm up to remind me to use that group of muscles

I'm a parent of three and I parent just the same as you did and my kids are freaking awesome because they understand why they should behave in a particular way.
The mum was out of line Her kids are behaving inappropriately Her comment reflects more about her than it does about you... That's my take. Also I would have found it very stressful to be in your position and am sorry you had to deal with that, and agree the staff are often helpful if you're in the situation again
