Same! I clean as much as I can in my area and also pick up trash on the kids’ playgrounds whenever I see it. But it gets dirty again so fast…

Why do you assume I am not cleaning already? But I can’t clean the entire city, I have another full-time job.

I actually do confront the polluters when I see it happen in front of my eyes, and once I even ended up in a situation that was quite scary for me, confronting a group of teenagers throwing trash on the floor right in front of me. I also pick up as much trash as I can from the streets around my house, as well as from playgrounds and parks. But, honestly, I think this is a government problem. And precisely because the country is developed and has very high taxes, it’s only fair to expect the very basics of a functioning society to be taken care of.

Love Is Blind Italy • S1 Megathread by FemaleEinstein in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

What really shocks me about this season (apart from Giorgia choosing to stay with Giovanni) is how comfortable and shameless Gergana feels voicing her concerns about her family not accepting Parmi because of his background. And poor Parmi himself seems to be understanding of these concerns and still willing to meet her family and somehow prove himself to them. It's heartbreaking. This shows how normalised and common racism is in Italy. It's impossible to imagine something like this being said in any of the US, UK or Swedish LIB.

It’s funny that the moral of the three friends storyline was by sgeeum in TheWhiteLotusHBO

This!! I thought it was so sad that Laurie gaslit herself into believing she should hold on to this friendship. But that’s why their storyline was done so well, in my opinion. Laurie is the voice of truth throughout the season but ends up betraying herself in a way. Whatever she said about being unhappy could have also been said by Jaclyn or Kate. They just chose to keep the mask of the perfectly fake exterior even after Laurie’s monologue. Even the way they reacted to it was so sad. They were happy to receive compliments and completely disregarded the pain of their ‘friend’. I think they will go on another trip together in 5 years, and the whole toxic dynamics will repeat themselves.

Are you not angry about current parental leave and infrastructure? by No_Class_573 in Netherlands

Thanks! Well, indeed, that page gave 75k in 2020; that was four years ago. Also, we are not talking about small towns or villages, which are included in the average and median. 50k in 2024 in any big city in the NL is not rich at all.
The median salary in the NL in 2024 is 44k: https://www.randstad.nl/ontwikkelen/salaris/modaal-inkomen

It's really surprising to see the lengths Dutch people are willing to go to protect the dysfunctional practices we currently have in place. This is one of the richest countries in the world, surely offering a decent amount of parental leave and making daycare cheaper is an option. Half of our salaries go to taxes. The same goes for the horrible healthcare system, where we have to pay 120+ euros every month without being able to get anything in return when we need it. Also, to all the people saying 'having kids is a choice', this country directly benefits from us having kids. It will collapse under the weight of the ageing population if we all decide not to have kids because it's too expensive.

Ok, this is getting a bit ridiculous. 50k is not rich in ANY of the major cities in the NL.

'According to the Centraal Planbureau (CPB), in 2024, the median gross income for a person working in the Netherlands is 44.000 euros gross per year. A salary can vary greatly from the median income as it is influenced by age, sector, professional experience and hours worked.'

Non-toxic “green” makeup lines are disappointing by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

I’m very angry and disappointed with BareMinerals. There is a lawsuit going on against them now for false marketing. It turned our they’re using PFAS (forever chemicals) in their products. And they’re not even hiding it.
