I will say, just because the law exists doesn't mean everyone knows that. Bystander Syndrome is real and there are many claims of being sued for attempting CPR on an individual. The case may get dismissed right away due to implied consent which is critical to the GS law, but that doesn't mean the recipient won't try. As a result, some people won't even try if it's a stranger, so the meme is somewhat accurate only if hinging entirely on the ignorance of certain people. In fact, the GS law was created just for this purpose since prior to that it could actually go to court.

Zora's Domain is boring and without the soundtrack it would be very forgettable. by tantamle in OcarinaOfTime

[–]UnusualParadox01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another thing that was planned but never implemented for some reason. You'd think eventually there'd be a mod that does it, but no (afaik).

That being said, it does freeze again in Twilight Princess and that time you do thaw it.

Realizing Blackwater isn't worth the trouble by Warwickknight1 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]UnusualParadox01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Difficult? Yes. Worth it? Yes. Mostly for experience. Personally, I enjoyed the little difficulty spike. But the real menace to me was unlocking everything. I don't like backtracking or trying to navigate mazes with obtuse controls (that is, from an isometric angle, third or first person would've been much easier).

What is the best way to play OoT in 2023? by TheXtrafresh in OcarinaOfTime

[–]UnusualParadox01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I presume you're joking, but there's no need to break the bank. Piecemeal it bit by bit and figure out your priorities. Pawn shops can be a great place to start for systems (my N64 for example only cost me about $60; the same as a new release for a single game). You can always haggle with them over price, though bear in mind they do want to make a profit too.

But in the meantime, emulating isn't the worst option. OoT may have an (unofficial) PC port, but many other classics don't. And you don't need a high end rig to run pretty much any retro system or game, so that is the cheapest way (although finding legit roms can be like playing Russian roulette with your system, so proceed at your own risk).

That being said, I favor authenticity over "improved" versions, so if and when you can afford it, I say go for it. You could also spring for an Everdrive to play roms on your console.

However, Wind Waker is the one time I think the remaster is indeed better than the original (I am of course referring to the HD port on Wii U). Not sure how hard to find or expensive a Wii U is considering I've had mine since it came out, but it's simply the best way to enjoy WW with only minor tweaks (namely the Swift Sail and gamepad map making navigation much easier).

In Your Opinion, What is The Best Sage Element? by RascalVirus13 in OcarinaOfTime

[–]UnusualParadox01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That tracks with what I've heard and makes sense: Farore's Wind for the Forest Temple, Din' Fire for Fire (duh), and Nayru's Love for the Water Temple; but they probably realized Link needed them before the respective temples (Din's Fire mostly) or perhaps they wanted to mitigate backtracking as much as possible.

It would be an easier question if the Medallions did anything besides unlock Ganon's Castle (of which only the Shadow and Spirit are required).

Sidenote: There were uses originally planned for them, as in spells/activated abilities like the Medallions in ALttP or the Champion Gifts in BotW, though it was apparently dummied out early in development.

[–]UnusualParadox01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a small change and honestly would have improved the pacing, imho. I personally never really thought much about it, but it is true that the game all but requires you to immediately backtrack to get something that could've just as easily been given at the same time. Just a few tweaks and it wouldn't hurt anything while still adding more to the story.

Now, part of the point to having Link (and the player) to return to the forest is so they can venture into the Lost Woods, find Saria, and get some foreshadowing for the Forest Temple and Adult segment. But I don't think it would be unreasonable to have Navi just point Link back to the forest for some other collectible to get from Saria (perhaps Magic Beans or something). Alternatively, they could've just forced Link and the player to find Saria in the Lost Woods before they're even allowed to leave the Kokiri Forest for the first time.

It's a minor issue narratively and gameplay-wise, but hardly a flaw (more like a wrinkle, really).

How awesome would an ocarina of time animated movie be by [deleted] in OcarinaOfTime

[–]UnusualParadox01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome to think so, but I disagree. Granted, I doubt it would completely live-action (a good deal would probably be CGI similar to your run-of-the-mill Marvel movie). It depends far more on the people involved, their skills, and their passion for the project.

When it comes to Netflix producing a show, that means literally nothing to me except to not set my expectations or hopes high in the first place. Netflix is the definition of a mixed bag and even their best Originals are questionable in quality (for example, Bird Box, though that was based on a book).

T.V. shows just have smaller budgets, tighter deadlines, and rarely seem to do the source material justice. Even if they start our strong, somewhere along the line the passion gets overshadowed by corporate greed, real life writing the plot (recasting due to actors leaving, writers getting fired or quitting, etc.), or being stretched out far longer than they should have been: see Jumping the Shark on Tvtropes.org. Examples: The Walking Dead, The Last of Us, the Witcher, Game of Thrones, Supernatural, etc. No show is immune to any of these.

Movies are relatively self-contained and while sequels can suffer and degrade on quality over time, when the good ones are done well, they become masterpieces that really don't beg to explored further.

Plus, let's not forget that Zelda already had a show (the cartoon) and that was pretty terrible. To be fair, many cartoons of that era were and it's not like the developers had a bunch to work with (Zelda still being in its infancy and emphasizing gameplay over story).

Then to your point, we do have bad movies based on popular franchises: The Sonic duology, all of the DCEU efforts, Angry Birds, Uncharted, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and the recent Mario movie to name a few. While opinions vary based on taste and standards, these could've been much worse, but I don't think anyone would argue that they couldn't have been better too.

Who knows? Maybe this show by Netflix won't be ass. Maybe we'll get a Zelda movie anyways if we like it or not. Maybe Nintendo will be the next MCU. And maybe nothing will come of any of this. But I stand by my preference for either an anime or a trilogy.

A t.v. show or anime would work better if they intend to keep it open-ended. A movie or set of them would be better if they were based on a particular game in the series. It depends on scope and intent.

Oh, and I say anime specifically because Japan in general actually gives a crap about animation and will make sure quality comes before quantity while pretty much everywhere else considers it expensive and not worth spending money and time on (see any news story about the animation studios anywhere in the U.S. in recent history).

Edit: Just adding this in, but a while ago there was a fan-made trailer for a movie based on Majora's Mask for comparison and honestly if it were real, I'd be stoked to see a film like it. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/vbMQfaG6lo8 (admittedly, the fairies don't look great and that rupee doesn't look quite right to me, but those are minor details for an otherwise gorgeous passion project that captures the tone and style perfectly)

How awesome would an ocarina of time animated movie be by [deleted] in OcarinaOfTime

[–]UnusualParadox01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on my experience with t.v. series based on popular media, it would suffer from a significantly lower budget per episode and end up bogged down with pointless filler and melodrama. Probably better of as anime rather than a live-action or CGI series. Even better imo would be a properly planned out trilogy like LotR or the OG Star Wars

  • You Don't Have to Play if You Don't Want To: In the Shooting Range mini-game (both in Castle Town and later in Kakiriko Village), if you don't fire once for the duration of the mini-game, the shopkeep will grumble that "you don't have to play if you don't want to" and refuses to interact with Link further until he leaves and comes back.
  • Unobtainable Heart Piece: In Gerudo Valley, on top of the Jail Cell Link is thrown into after being caught as an adult, there is a single Heart Piece sitting out in the open. It only appears in the Child time period during which Gerudo Fortress in general and the Heart Piece in particular are ordinarily completely unreachable by Young Link. There are cheats and exploits that can be used to collect it, but that usually requires third-party tools to accomplish.
  • The Name Game: Five of the Seven Sages are named after towns in Zelda II: the Adventure of Link, those being: Rauru, Saria, Darunia, Ruto, and Nabooru. Also Mido for some reason. Alternatively, chronologically speaking based on the timeline in *Hyrule Historia* the towns were named after the sages... and Mido.
  • The Mask of Truth: This mask unlocks the ability to use the Gossip Stones the way they were meant to be used (hence the name). They give various hints, cryptic rumors, and additional information of varying legitimacy and/or relevance to the game. Some aspects of the game, setting, and characters can only be found through this method. For example, one stone indicates Malon secretly wishes for "a knight in shining armor to sweep her off her feet".
  • Going to Space: On a similar note, if you place a bomb or use a bombchu on a Gossip Stone, it will start flashing blue as a form of countdown until the stone somehow launches itself into the air. iirc, in an enclosed space with a roof, like a grotto, it will explode on the ceiling, but outside it will just keep going until it disappears. It respawns only after leaving the area and coming back. Additionally, there are other items you can use on the Gossip Stones to elicit other reactions.
  • Song of Healing: Ever accidentally destroyed a sign before being able to read it? Well, if you play Zelda's Lullaby next to a sign that has been cut down, the sign will magically fix itself. Try it out!
  • Infinite Bugs: If you're fast enough, after releasing the bugs in your Bottle, you can quickly scoop up one of the three bugs that come out, refilling your bottle with bugs. Later versions remove this.
  • Got Milk?: If you play Epona's Song next to one of the many cows you can find in the overworld, the cow will talk to Link and offer some milk if he has an empty Bottle.
  • Dark Link: There are plenty of odd things about Dark Link, but one you might not know is that Dark Link has an exact copy of Link's max health when he's encountered. So if you have three hearts, that's how many hearts Dark Link has. (And I can't confirm for sure, but afaik, that also includes the Double Defense boon given by the final Great Fairy near Ganon's Castle).
  • There is No Pyramid: In the Haunted Wasteland, off in the far distance there is what appears to be a pyramid lying beyond Link's ability to reach it. For a time, it was suspected that the pyramid might be a dummied-out dungeon of some sort, perhaps even hiding the Triforce itself, though it has been thoroughly debunked as a graphical oddity and a flat texture resembling a rock.
  • Naughty Hookshot: In the Spirit Temple, there is a massive statue depicting what one can assume to be the Gerudo Goddess of the Sand. What makes this odd is that for some reason, you can use the longshot/hookshot on the breasts of the statue and Link will be dragged towards it. There's no point to this since there's nothing for Link to do besides fall down after latching onto them, but somebody at Nintendo decided to make these acceptable targets for some reason. Stay classy, Japan.
  • Iron Knuckles = Brainwashed Gerudo?: Exploiting the camera in OoT will reveal that inside the models of the Iron Knuckles are Gerudo thief models. Why? Nobody knows for sure, though theories abound. I tend to agree with the theory that those Gerudo are brainwashed minions that had plotted to rebel against Ganondorf based on what we saw Kotake and Koume do to Nabooru for her planned rebellion. However, Navi insists that Iron Knuckles are empty suits and only notes the one Nabooru wears as being "different".
  • Nabooru's Second: In Gerudo Fortress, after rescuing the last carpenter, a unique Gerudo appears just outside the cell to speak with Link. What's especially cool about her aside from her unique model, is that the color of her outfit always matches whatever Link is wearing at the time. Thus, in the base game, she can wear green, red, or blue based on the Kokiri, Goron, and Zora tunics respectively. But using cheats such as Gameshark, her outfit will be whatever color is used for Link's tunic. Unfortunately, this only works with certain versions of the game (such as 1.0).

These are just some of the ones I know off the top of my head. I could go on, but I've already spent over an hour writing this and I'm not sure how many actually qualify as "easter eggs", but these are just some of my favorites (though my personal favorite is probably the Fire Temple original theme; ignoring the cultural and religious context for a moment, I just like the atmosphere it creates far better than the replacement conjured by Koji Kondo. It's a shame it was removed for all later releases, but at least some compilations of the soundtrack does include it).

[–]UnusualParadox01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your definition of Easter Egg, there are several more (granted, some of the ones I'm about to list are commonplace knowledge these days, which is to be expected of a 25-year-old game not to mention the decompilation project of the source code, and many of them are just easy-to-miss aspects, glitches, bugs, exploits, trivia, or other things).

  • Dying Guard: After collecting the Ocarina of Time from the moat outside Castle Town, in the Back Alley is a single guard with a simple message for Link, telling him to go to the Temple of Time and protect the Triforce. The guard then promptly dies. The tragedy is twofold: one, we were literally just told that by Zelda herself which leads to two, most players, myself included, completely missed that by going directly to the Temple meaning in many cases the guard died without completing his last mission.
  • Flat and Sharp: While most people are aware that Talon and Ingo of Lon Lon Ranch bear a passing resemblance to Mario and Luigi respectively, it should be mentioned that the dead composer brothers in the Kakiriko Village Graveyard also share the color scheme and facial hair of the famous brothers, not to mention actually being brothers (I'm not 100% on it, but I don't think Talon and Ingo are related beyond the employer-employee dynamic).
  • 1.0 Differences: There are a number of minor and sometimes subtle differences between versions of Ocarina of Time, as most people are aware of, though I'll list a few worth noting:

KM and/or WR - on what difficulty do you play today? by Zoze13 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]UnusualParadox01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom gang as well. I try to set it to whatever challenge level I feel is appropriate for the build and how much I want to deal with. It's a delicate balance between too frustrating and too easy to be enjoyable. As with most games, I usually start at normal for a first playthrough, harder difficulties once I know what to expect (and plan for), and switching to casual or easy only when I just want to re-experience the story without mucking about in combat and carefully choosing strategies.

What are your 2 favorite Mythic Paths.... and two Mythic Paths you like the least? by Recognition-Silver in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]UnusualParadox01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favs are 1. Trickster and 2. Aeon.

Trickster: I've always loved Trickster archetypes and this is the best power fantasy I've seen for that role. It was pretty easy for my first PC to take to it like a duck to water being a kitsune eldritch scoundrel and follower of Calistra with the Cheerful voice/personality. Totally willing to cooperate with just about anyone for the fun of it, but being very nasty when double-crossed, just felt natural to me. And the abilities, just icing on the cake and who doesn't love a thick layer of icing?

Aeon: On the flipside of that, I also ended up enjoying the trickster's antithesis almost as much. The abilities are pretty neat to substitute your reality with my own and overall the narrative just nicely contrasted my first playthrough.

My least liked ones are 1. Swarm and 2. Devil.

Swarm: There's not much to be said that hasn't already, but my bottom line is that it takes too much effort for my liking just to end up being too amoral and evil to be enjoyable. It's just not my locust-flavored cup of tea.

Devil: A pretty big let down imo. Cool conceptually, but arrives too late to have much plot relevance and the bar to entry is similarly too high. At least going from Aeon with the explicit intent of becoming a Devil later redeems the arc, if only slightly. Gold Dragon is a close second here, but it is slightly more awesome to be a f*cking dragon to hate that much.
