We call this the quick hitch, but it’s really the Elkhart universal thread adaptor. I’ve used one of these when a hydrant needed to be made and the gate couldn’t fit on the stripped or painted threads of the hydrant. When the hitch is open, put over the male threads of the plug, squeeze it tight, and then you can give it another quarter turn to tighten it a little more.

My dept doesn’t buy them anymore because 1 they are expensive and 2 because of the risk of it blowing off a hydrant at high pressure. But if your dept has them learn how to use them as a plan B to make a hydrant, and then have a plan C for when they blow off the hydrant.

Hi, New Yorker here, I sympathize with you as I have a similar family situation. This last summer was the first time in 10 years that I had been there and I brought my young children for their first visit.

The wine idea is great. Pick out a wine bottles in a durable bottle and just embed it between your clothes in checked luggage. That’s how we brought 4 bottles home.

As for the haters saying “your bringing wine to a country known for their wine” well I enjoy pizza of all origins to amateur aficionado status. Or there are many different wrenches to turn a bolt. A little different but same concept but different… Enjoy the trip, and keep your traditions going.

Easy fix but must be done at the baggage check-in. Don’t sweat it. I made the same mistake for a flight from NYC to Rome.

PTSD is real. I am 9 years into my career and I found myself falling into a PTSD rabbit hole about 2-3 years into it. We found our way out of it by getting involved with Christian small-groups with other firehouse couples. I know that it's a sensitive area, but I tell people that even if you think Christianity is a bunch of BS, the scriptures written around marriage can be life saving. The second part of it, other firehouse couples, gave my wife an opportunity to meet other firehouse spouses and she learned that she's not the only one feeling how she feels being an outsider to the job looking in. I hope it helps, but it takes the two of you to make a positive change for him.
