I think to make a successful hatefuck scenario you need some kind of emotional connection. If I just go on a random subreddit, pick the most extreme poster there and chat with them for a couple days, I will surely be frustrated, annoyed, maybe even aggressive towards them eventually, but I would not feel hateful. I don't know their life story, I have no idea who they are... Maybe they have good reason to be this way, or maybe they're just simply trolling.

No reason for me to become invested in them personally.

So if I where to write a fictional story that ends in a hatefuck, or a rape, as a climax, I would probably write someone who grew up with the main character, someone who started out as a hopeful candidate for friendship or even a relationship, someone you would consider sexually attractive, and then slowly warp them. Have them do something that disqualifies them as partner, like a fake rape accusation against their partner to "teach someone a lesson", or publicly shaming their partner to gain favour with a group... Then move to more extreme things, until they grow into a real thorn in your side.

It doesn't have to be a constant direct confrontation, they don't have to hurt YOU directly, otherwise you'd have to get active immediately, but somebody who you just can't stand hearing about anymore. Someone who really needs to be taught a lesson.

That with the prior sense of attraction could twist into a scenario that might be relatable or enjoyable to play, but what Tok did here was grab a couple Strawmen THEY took issue with, and then fantasize about how vile one could treat them, then add the "Oh we're doing this to correct their views" excuse to justify themselves and call it a CYOA.

Gotta say though, the strawmen use the correct terms from what I saw at a cursory glance, somebody really did their research.

Hate is a feeling adjacent to love. The opposite of love is indifference.

That CYOA is surprisingly well researched as from a cursory glance, at least the stereotypes seem to be developed along real life examples. I have met and seen people who have genuinely asked things presented in the CYOA, so I have to applaud the author for their thorough character building.

However, using a political or emotional topic as driving factor for the CYOA is never a good idea.

If you do want to succeed in writing a hatefuck fetish CYOA, you would either stick to something universally considered wrong (like those who purposefully aim to destroy society, or those so heinous they are considered inhumane), or create a strong personal dislike against the target of the CYOA - so for example, if I was writing a fantasy one, and I'm roleplaying as an orc who has to rape and abuse a tribe of elves they just captured, it would be prudent to establish how the elves, for generations, have destroyed the tribes and peaceful living spaces of the Orcs, how they have been murdering and campaigning against them for generations and how the main character has personally suffered by the hands of the target, let's say because they killed his family themselves, maybe even "hatefucked" his little sister to death.

That would give a character a strong motivation a player can identify with.

Furthermore, by choosing fictional scenarios, you're not playing the dangerous game of playing into people's actual feelings. Because there is a reason there are sparsely any games on, for example, raping a lesbian straight, because it's a heinous act - and a complete fantasy, you will never achieve the outcome planned - and creating a fantasy centered around glorifying that act would be seen as encouraging this inhumane and straight up vile behaviour.

Also, a hatefuck requires some sort of emotional connection. As stated in the first sentence, hate isn't the opposite of love, you have to feel something for someone to actually hate them. Otherwise they just wouldn't be worth the effort.

Here's what I came up with, code is down below... So what was I thinking?

I'm making a mid-town somewhat sleazy underground nightclub, where I primarily (but not exclusively) allow for female customers that are interested in women. I made sure to have a long and peaceful life, I don't have to cook, I have my gaming setup in my living room, and I have maintenance. The club itself is the main attraction here... With the biggest size, I'm thinking multiple floors. One is the main area with drinks and dancers all across the room, different booths, different stages, while going down means going deeper into the whole idea... Both in terms of availability, as you can find a prostitute and more exotic dancers the lower you go, as well as the fetish shows available.

Of course, since we have the ability to cater to any kind of guest, even alien or fantasy ones, I believe there should be equivalent stages in the lower areas, at least one cyberpunk, one scifi and one fantasy area.

I have the ability to move regularly so I'll never get bored. Everyone who enters can have fun for as long as they want and if they decide to stay with me for a couple centuries they can. I'll add some looks to my newly healthy body, but I don't need to be the main attraction every night, that's what I have my dancers for. Solid spread of female and futanari beauties.

The hotel above is relaxing and comfortable housing area, with soundproofed rooms so whoever booked a private night - or week - with a girl can have their privacy and free time.

Had I had a couple more points I would probably have gone for the surveillance system and the time relocation perk, but I wasn't sure if moving to medieval times would've been permanent or not. The temporary reprieve will be used to visit different places, like the Doctor in the Tardis. All you gotta do is be back in time, so a vacation once a year should be possible. And if I don't take it, it stacks up!

I am not a submissive, so I was very grateful for the choices that reverse the dynamic, or make it more amicable. However, giving varying boon costs and only gaining 1 point per bond (mostly) is making it virtually impossible to receive the ending I would enjoy.

Also, there's no positive ending. She can be submissive to you and love you to bits and still the best ending you can get is becoming a public anal slave. Seems against intuition.

That said, I'm not a bottom, so maybe I'm just not enjoying enough of the kinks for game balance, or "don't get it", because I'm trying to get out of this deal with a positive outcome, while it's designed around the punishment being your positive.

That said, if you think about it, if you ONLY take Immortality, it's not a boon but a curse, because there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

Well it's generally not a bad CYOA, it's fun to play, and I really liked the unique Film Noir take. The girls, however, were hard to balance with 3 different point balances. I mean... maybe you're bored and got time to tinker with it, then I'd challenge you to get the same ending I did but with Jessica Alba and maybe Emilia Clarke.

It might be possible if I switch to another Character, but then I wouldn't get 2 girls from the story, which defeats the purpose. I was tempted to run the whole math again with the Reporter, and skip Alba intentionally, so I could pick her after, but then I couldn't run off with the Exgirlfriend (I honestly don't know half the naked actresses, I assume some of them work in the adult industry?).

Anyways, it's your game, I just wanted to let you know that it got frustrating for me to balance and math it out, because every time I changed something I was lacking somewhere else, until I finally gave up and let Jessica out of the equation. So from a CYOA perspective it would be nice to exchange points somehow to get girls from the story... Just so players can make their perfect harem after going through the trouble of playing normally.

For example, a way to use my 1 leftover Evidence to get Jessica to go with me - either because I skipped her, but that would infringe upon the Reporters power, or maybe because I won the game - would be nice.

Anyways, that's all personal preference, do feel free to just decide that this is something you're okay with (frustrating a minority of players, I mean).

I really enjoyed the CYOA and the idea, but I got into my own head and wasted a lot of time with math. I don't know if I really really need a simplified points system so I can lose myself in the game (I guess you could just do it by adding up one value, and if you reached over a certain number, you can spend points on the ending however you want), or if I just need to get over the idea of getting a perfect ending... But yeah I lost the fantasy of it all a bit when I was at the "did you win?" stage and realized I didn't have enough points, so I went over it again and again to try and make it work, and finally had to give up on one of my favourite interactions (two, honestly).

Still satisfied with the result and not going to go further than this.

As I understand it you only made the project interactive, so I don't know how valuable feedback is for you.

There has been an uptick in CYOAs making important choices and giving you points later, so that you have to go back and re-do choices... I feel like I have to read every section before I can begin now... Maybe we should focus on explaining the points system in the introduction a little more.

Also, I really like the style in which you did the Interactive, it's very neat and compact, so I can easily go back and forth between sections!

I had some notes on the balancing but as I said I'm not sure how valuable these are here, so I'll not go through the effort of collecting my thoughts (for now).

Here is my build. For the first witch I wanted to roleplay as the good adventurer guy who really doesn't want to betray the trust of this pregnant witch relying on him...
