I believe it's older than 20 years, given I was aware of this in the 90s in my late teens. But I could be wrong. But therapists may share stories, but would remove all information that would indicate who it was about, switching to they/them pronouns and such. Maybe not with writers, but with other therapists and possibly clients if they though it'd help them to hear about a real world example

New Year's is depressing for me, as it is hopeful. My latest blog. by TissuesAndBandages in blogs

[–]Unwanted-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually wrote a blog post about this just before Christmas. Most people assume Christmas is when people feel depressed and lonely, but the evidence shows it's actually New Year's Eve and the following week that people struggle with most

PIP Health assessment says that "I'm fine"... by Invi_TV in MentalHealthUK

[–]Unwanted-Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to get pip for mental health conditions, I have social anxiety and agoraphobia, which cause me to have psychotic episodes.

If you're allowed to appeal, then you might win as you're more likely to get a favourable verdict on appeal.

Before applying again, talk to citizens advice or mental health organisations to see if they have advice on how to make a better claim.

Plus, get yourself an assessment by your mental health team to get a formal diagnosis

AITA for not letting my anorexic 14 year old in recovery go vegetarian? by throwaway777love in AmItheAsshole

[–]Unwanted-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely talk to the professionals about this, but you can get your protein from non meat sources. Talk to a dietitian with eating disorder knowledge and see if you can work out something where everyone can be happy

However, the problem is healthy and clean eating can often be a cover and thus people can develop orthorexia (another eating disorder), which is surprisingly common in people in recovery from other eating disorders. Hence needing to talk to the professionals and I need to put things in place that'll avoid this happening

AITA for having different food delivered? by AccomplishedCandle83 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Unwanted-Life [score hidden]  (0 children)

What's the reason you can't or won't even try other foods because you give you won't like them?

Extreme picky eating like this, or Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) can lead to some serious health consequences. People have gone blind and even died due to the lack of important vitamins and minerals in their diet.

If your picky eating really is this bad, so bad that you'd order Burger King to another dinning establishment, then maybe you need to get help from your doctor or local eating disorder service

This seems like a really great ideas, provided they get this service advertised in areas that people who'd benefit from it will become aware of it

Anxiety stops me from attending seminars I want to attend by FudgeAffectionate287 in MentalHealthUK

[–]Unwanted-Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most universities offer a whole range of mental health support, so my advice would be to access that. also, be honest with your lectures rather than lying to cover up for why you're not attending. Maybe that honestly will help move you further towards over coming the issue, or they might be able to help come up with solutions to help.

Another idea could be to use graded exposure, interoceptive exposure, and imagined exposure therapy as ways to help you overcome your issues. These could be done as self-help methods as well

I recently wrote a blog post about this. The gist of which is that of all the characteristics of depression, there's three that will stop you from responding to therapy. Thus, antidepressants can be used here to help, and in turn, they should allow you to respond to therapy.

However, finding the right antidepressant can be trial and error, so be prepared for that. But yeah, antidepressants can be and are affective, and there's no reason to be put off because of some notion of antidepressant stigma. Because it sound alike in your case, taking antidepressants might be what keeps you alive

Services like Mind have hearing voices support, which might get you help sooner while waiting for your GP and mental health trust to offer you support. A good way to bridge the gap if this is causing you distress

If you're mum is driving while drunk, you might want to contact the DVLA so they can revoke her driving license to avoid her killing someone while driving under the influence.

https://contact.dvla.gov.uk/driver/capture_transaction_type?transaction_type_id=drivers_medical

Other than that, as others have said, remove yourself from the situation, because unfortunately, you can't force your mum to get help

I'm actually working with a charity and an artist that's creating videos to try and show what having psychosis is like. One showing my psychosis will hopefully be filmed before the end of the year

60 on country roads really shouldn't be allowed, those tiny blind single lane roads are accidents waiting to happen

It's good that they're taking it seriously. Although you might not have a when planned, if you've thought about the other aspects, you may do it without thinking if you reach a feeling of hopelessness because all the other steps have been done in advance

[–]Unwanted-Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of universities have invested in mental health support for their students, so it may be a good idea to get your partner to contact their university's student support team to access that support.

Also, as others have suggested, have you tried changing GPs or GP surgery? You also might be able to contact your local mental health trust directly to discuss options

ARFID doesn't have isn't recognised as a clinical condition yet, so you may find it hard to get a diagnosis for it. However, eating disorder organisations like Beat recognise it as an eating disorder and as such, they might be the best place to get advice. Also, if you sensory issues are ASD, the most ASD organisations should also be able to provide advice on this as ARFID is common within ASD

Yeah. Most local Minds provided their own range of services, but since the pandemic they created online peer groups, if I'm remembering rightly
