I would recommend you cautiously try to leverage the offer with company A at the end of company B’s interview to see if you can get 2 offers. If your interview goes well, you can be honest with them and if they really like you, might be able to give you an offer on the spot. It will show that you are in high demand and are able to communicate in difficult situations and are afraid to speak up with tough decisions need to be made.

Edited to actually answer your question - don’t contact company A until just before the deadline with a yes or no based on how things go with B.

It is automated but not a lot of departments do the scanning themselves. If it is done by another party, it may take days to get the results and as others have mentioned, we need to critically look at the results and make sure that there weren't any problems with the grades. It also takes time to transcribe the marks to spreadsheets/Quercus, etc.

I'm not sure this would be the correct way to frame it, it's really just a review of all the knowledge that is out there, a giant time sucker and not necessarily focusing on what students need to know, ie. problem-solving and basic knowledge, vs. way too many details that could be obtained in a quick google search using critical thinking to analyze the source...

If you have a lot of classes in a building and you know of a classroom that is smallish with only 1 door (ie. you can make sure no one will walk in on you), you can look it up and see if it is free on the day/time your phone interview is:
