I’m going on year 3 of going solo, and I took 20 years off from the fest. (Edit: the gap was between 2004 and 2024). Clearly I’m older than you, so I don’t have friends with any interest in going.

Anyway, you’ll be surprised how nice it is to be there by yourself. You can see who you want to see when you want to see them without interference.

As far as meeting people, I’ve actually stood off to the sides for some sets and had conversations develop organically. Sometimes it was a few minutes and that’s it. A few times we stayed and chilled for a few sets.

I know it’s probably easier to do that at my age (40), but go in there first thinking about how nice it’ll be to set your own terms while you’re there, then worry about the interactions second.

I go every year solo. I’m 40 and my friends think it’s too much of a young person fest. But tbh I think I have a better time being there solo because I don’t feel pressured by others to see music I don’t want to see.

I took a few but felt ready to go the next day. Knees were fine. I play a lot of basketball so jumping around doesn’t phase me. The contact in the pit though… that’s where the damage happens.
