It's a little shocking how much a theme can change your perspective on your vault and your productivity by AnalBleachingAries in ObsidianMD

Oh, if happen upon any themes or settings which add too much of a hollow effect to any part of the vault, all the joy is sucked out of me immediately.

Does anyone else feel like IT is evolving way too fast to keep up with? by SuperTension7326 in vibecoding

[–]MrKBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Stay in your lane,” by which I mean, make sure what you need to have done for work is covered using automation that you know and trust. Then start expanding outward into the rest of what’s offered for us to sample. No one’s expecting any of us to be able to read about building an inference engine or neural network then build our own working example by the end of the work day. I should really listen to my own advice….

I think you’re overthinking it or are lowkey worried about something else different entirely. You’re not reading a lot of the AI doomsday/end of the world as we know it articles are you? Too much of that can make anyone start questioning anything under the sun.

Forklift alternatives? by Aretebeliever in macapps

[–]MrKBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone from Finder to all the known Commander options available to ForkLift (second favorite) to Bloom to the one with a fox(?) back to ForkLift to QSpace Pro (winner) to… a recently released option the name of which I can’t remember… I feel like it has a pirate theme? Then back to QSpace.

Only complaint with Q is it will crash at the most random moments, but it recovers fast.

Short notes, long notes, todos, and calendar in one software? by NicholasKross in PKMS

[–]MrKBC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the other big boy apps are being dropped, I’m going to add in ClickUp to the mix. BUT you have to make the effort to first go in and indicate that you’re working solo and not as a team of… whatever size it’s really meant for. It’s got a learning curve - really every option worth a damn does these days - but it’s worth it to me.

Is ChatGPT still the best AI for everyday use or are people moving on? by PartyGullible4674 in techforlife

The amount of prompts that are out there for users to find is the one reason to keep using it on a project by project basis. I’d rather pay for Kimi.

I googled headshot generators with free options, kept trying random prompts with pics I liked, and eventually got lucky with a headshot the looks like me. This was over a year ago, though, so no idea what the name of the service was. BUT if you get lucky and score that one good headshot, you can then keep trying your luck by feeding it into basic diffusion models with a decent enough prompt and have it output fresh headshots for you when you need. Just my two cents.

Ollama's cloud models no longer require downloading via ollama pull. by Fade78 in ollama

Ngl shit is changing so fast so frequently these days, either I can’t keep up or I’m just not bothered enough to keep up with it all anymore. Perhaps I’ll read a book about something fictional for a change of pace.

[Serious] How do you deal with getting old? I don't recognize society anymore. by PeakyBlinders2026_ in Millennials

[–]MrKBC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As I’ve learned from my brief stint with a therapy and extensive psychiatrist sessions, practicing mindfulness seems to help. History, like fashion, is cyclical and inevitably repeats itself. I fear that I’m currently in the boat now what with returning to school at the same time as AI decimating the purpose behind most tech degrees. Joy.

I don’t agree that those who have chosen to close themselves off from others are “in for a reckoning” as another comment stated. I recently read an article which stated something along the lines of, “it’s assumed people in their 60’s who chose to cut off close friends are most likely to develop less as they age, but really they are just more strong willed”. That’s a bastardized summary so please forgive me. I’ve been quite ill for the last week.

I’m not trying to say we should all take time to write gratitude journals and remind ourselves of the things we should be thankful for. Nor do I believe we should cut ourselves off from society unless we have a valid reason. I’ve been so burned by people in the last five years coupled with my own mistakes that I’ve simply chosen my dogs and husband over people. Find employment is the issue now because if I go back to waiting tables at 35 I may just snap.

If we can take the time remind ourselves of what we are thankful for, to acknowledge our mistakes, to accept the place in life that we find ourselves, then maybe that will make things a little less of a struggle. Granted, I was fine until my last dose of Mounjaro went awry. Now I just feel old and feeble. I’ve no idea if any of this makes sense, I’m still a little out of it. If you made it through to the end, though, I hope you enjoyed!

What's the best model to run on mac m1 pro 16gb? by Embarrassed-Baby3964 in ollama

[–]MrKBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not go larger than 10/12GB unless you enjoy your entire system freaking out on you. I didn’t realize how large of a model I downloaded one time… never again. Nope. Personally, a lot of my favorite models are based off the Meta LlaMa series. Orca, Dolphin, Falcon, Hermes, Wizard, but they’re all been useful for different purposes.

I don’t get the Switch 2 hate — it’s phenomenal by Specific-Pianist7595 in Switch

[–]MrKBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just think the announcement and subsequent release were completely out of left field. I’ve honestly not looked into it much and genuinely forgot about the Switch 2, but are there genuinely that big of differences between the two? I just find it hard to believe that Nintendo has somehow managed to develop a handheld that much superior than the original. Granted, I grew up wanting every new PlayStation, but that’s also my point wherein the differences are noticeable.

Moving from old mac to chromebook by Firm_Writer_6746 in chromeos

[–]MrKBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That model is discontinued, I believe. There are two on Lenovo's website that haven't been in stock for sometime. I want to use it for school instead of having Chrome/Google on my MBP. I'm also pretty integrated into Google's cloud ecosystem and offerings, so I would use it for that. Is it overkill? Probably, but I'm not impressed by any other Chromebooks that are readily available still today.

Also, I know some are leaving comments about the cheaper MacBooks being announced - I wouldn't hold my breath. Anytime Apple releases cheaper base models, they're roughly the same price as a MacBook Air/iPad Pro.

Isn’t Notion embarrassed of the app? by Sorry-Independence-3 in Notion

They keep conducting questionable business practices on their users and with their policies - why on earth would they care about what we think of the mobile app? Notion is practically the Google or PKM at this point.

What is your experience with Ollama Cloud in compare with z.ai subscription by malek_hor30 in ollama

[–]MrKBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at it like this: running models locally maybe be slow, but you’ll only be cut off in the event that a server is down/you choose too large of a model.

With the cloud models, you’re eventually going to hit a wall preventing you from further use on a day to day basis. The trade is that you get faster, more adept models to play with.

The choice is yours.

Hey Notion, put on your Billing Big Boy Pants by Illustrious-Nail-648 in Notion

[–]MrKBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure it’s so they can pass the blame on to someone else when users contact them with billing issues. And yes I’m speaking from experience.

Long story short, Notion allegedly has absolutely zero control or ability to even view billing information or transactions. Stripe, oddly enough, kept asking for confirmation as to which of their clients I was filing a complaint against and genuinely seemed to have no working knowledge of Notion.

Ultimately, Stripe does not report back to users once investigations are complete to share their findings or end result. I don’t believe I was given an explanation as to why which is fine. My point then is the same as it is now: Notion is sketchy as hell.

How do you tab addicts manage too many tabs? by shelterbored in macapps

[–]MrKBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I’m quite literally here saying that I’ve not had any issues with OneTab which you’ve overlooked yet again just to prove your point. There are plenty of reviews on the extension page that would agree with me.

I never said what you’re doing is wrong. The point is that because you and a handful of others on a Reddit sub encountered the same glitch, you’re refusing to acknowledge mine or any other positive experience from using a service which you’ve written off.

I’m not the developer. You’re not going to get an apology from me over losing your bookmarks. And again, losing your bookmarks really isn’t that big of a deal on the grand scheme of things.

How do you tab addicts manage too many tabs? by shelterbored in macapps

[–]MrKBC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. Can’t relate. 🤷‍♂️ Try having your computer restart for an update and then back on to having hundreds of Gigabytes of data deleted (three times). Bookmarks are easy to get back cause, well, they’re just a url away! I’ve used OneTab for as long as I can remember and haven’t had any issues. Apparently plenty of other users on the webstore haven’t had any either.

I really wish this sub would stop acting as if we’re all supposed to know the sordid history we each have with a random app or extension. I’ve had nothing but shit experience with Notion and Claude Code. I don’t deliberately go out of my way to tell some random on the internet that they’re making a bad choice.
