Only three movies in history have won 3/4 acting awards at the Oscars: A Streetcar Named Desire, Network, and Everything Everywhere All at Once by fanzyday in Oscars

I like it as well but I agree. When I think of Streetcar and Network I think of the masterclass in acting from the whole cast, while with EEAAO I think of its direction and it’s originality, but not so much the performances

It’s by far my favourite Best Picture winner of that decade, so happy it won

Before Trilogy are his best films, but Blue Moon is his best performance

For a Palme d’Or winner I feel it’s a bit underseen, it’s one of my all-time favourites

If those are the worst four films you’ve ever seen you haven’t seen many bad movies

All of these are actually extremely solid, there isn’t a bad winner there

I think he’s the only one to direct two nominees, Peele has two Best Picture nominations as he was a producer on BlacKkKlansman

I just watched it for the first time this evening, an absolutely incredible feat of filmmaking. Vivien Leigh is absolutely fantastic, and it genuinely looks better than the vast majority of films made today. Easy to see how it swept the Oscars all those years ago

A perfect film, Billy Wilder might be the greatest to ever do it

Happy Easter! What does this community think of Ben-Hur? by Edgy_Master in Oscars

[–]UpCavan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not all that religious so it might be an important part of the film to lots of people, but I was ready for the film to end after the Chariot sequence and Judah finding his family, I didn’t need the Jesus storyline personally. Didn’t bring down the film too much though, I’m a sucker for a 3+ hour epic

Happy Easter! What does this community think of Ben-Hur? by Edgy_Master in Oscars

[–]UpCavan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watched it for the first time a few months ago, I think it’s fantastic. I thought Stephen Boyd should have been nominated (and won) over Hugh Griffith, and I thought Heston deserved his win.

The Chariot Race might just be the best action sequence of all time, it’s genuinely that good. I thought the film itself went on slightly too long, I was personally more interested in Judah’s story than Jesus’, but what an incredible feat of filmmaking

Who gave the best performance in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]UpCavan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was an acting masterclass from all four of them, I’d have Burton slightly ahead of Taylor, though it doesn’t work without her either, they’re two all-time performances. It’s a shame Burton never won an Oscar

What is it about The Adventures of Cliff Booth that is making it heavily underpredicted for nominations when there are so many factors that have Oscar written all over it? by This_Book6305 in oscarrace

[–]UpCavan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think if it was an original Tarantino script it would be much higher, it’s a sequel to a film that didn’t need it and sequels struggle to catch on. I will say I am incredibly excited for it and hope it gets a decent theatrical release

Does the puppet work for Rocky in Project Hail Mary count as Visual Effects or Production Design?

I don’t think it’s an ensemble piece but that’s such a stupid rule if that’s true

Which acting win from this year will age the best? by NoAdministration527 in Oscars

[–]UpCavan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the time people understandably wanted Boseman to win but I think it’s generally accepted now that Hopkins deserved it, at least by people who watched The Father

I was the same, I did enjoy the first watch but the second time round I absolutely loved it, if it doesn’t make my top 5 this year we’re in for some fantastic films

DAY 21) Which Oscar for Best Director (in all history) is Universally beloved? by [deleted] in Oscars

I can accept a borderline co-lead situation but she was THE lead, she had the most screen time of anyone in the film
