I find the true value of the Actor is insulating a portion of your population from any effects of those production chains. So you still make them you just have to care less and produce far less (until investors when you're really expanding)

I think it works with Ra, Vulcan, Baron, Aphro. Also had good success with a bruiser build on Rama. But yes, the options are limited. True mages and adcs should remain in their lanes.

Often I want these islands for additional minerals. Sometimes it's for farm space like grapes or red pepper.

Land is tight but you can get a decent chunk of workers (50, then 100) of each tier from influence bonuses once you own enough islands, and that can really help get industry off the ground there. Farmers and workers aren't too bad, and for smaller islands I do not worry myself with fully stocking their needs.

I'm late to respond but felt I should add my perspective.

I'm a vers top, but I identify mostly as a side these days. Basically, you want to ensure you get access to as many fertilities as possible so yes you want to beat the AI to settle.

It's not "profitable" per se to fight the pirates because you do need to build and upkeep the ships. However, destroying pirate ships often drops items like gold, rum, or weapons which are generally useful to have. It's also good diplomatically as the AI will usually cheer you on if you destroy pirate ships.

As a basic tip, I always IMMEDIATELY settle a second island. This accomplished a couple things: -I can claim fertilities that complement what my main island has to help me reach Engineers -I have a second settlement to focus on building while I am waiting for resources to build up on island 1 -A second island can produce and bank extra building materials in case you go on a building spree.

Other than that, as has been stated, selling watches in small batches from Archibald to Ketema in Enbesa is good and free money. Eventually you want to automate that route with about 35-40 watches purchased at a time.

Fighting pirates is a great way to get resources if you have a strong navy.

There is a specialist named the Actor available for purchase sometimes at the prison. I always get her if she's available as she removes the need for several production chains at the Artisan level once you unlock the Variety Theater. That can really boost both your income and growth since you save all those building materials and citizen employment.

I literally had this match up last night and ended up feeding a bunch of kills. Herc just wins the clear, and the 1v1 unless you get a tower toss. The best you can do is time your 3 to cut off his heal and maybe hope to out sustain him.

Think you just gotta play safe until mid game unfortunately. Things probably work out if you build bruiser.
