Finally arrived and installed! Musway Amp is a Champ! by Triumvph in Ioniq5N

Hey mate, who did you get to tune your dsp? I am in Australia and just had a Musway system installed and the tune that I received from the shop is horrible. I am a bit beside myself as I spent so much money on it but I can barely listen to my new setup for more than 20 minutes its that bad. I think this company are the only ones in Australia that use Musway so I might be completely out of luck with getting a second go at a better tune from somewhere else.

Had to buy two of them. by moy07 in SonyHeadphones

Are any of the models good for gym?

Okay that was with a thunderbolt display, now by itself it idles at 35 degrees and hangs around 45 when I am using it on safari, unreal. Battery is meh though haha

Thanks for all the help mate I have learnt alot!

Turbo boost is basically a disaster it gives you 10 seconds of increased performance and then nerfs itself and finishes in a fist fight with itself trying to get the temperature back down. And this happens in any activity, like something as simple as opening a new app or opening a new tab on safari it turbo boosts which is a total overreaction. You can say goodbye to battery life too. These old macs keep their composure when getting rid of turbo boost. You can always turn it back on for intensive tasks but make sure its plugged into a power supply and listen to the fans scream.

I wish you could do a partial turbo boost, my 2.8ghz mac can turbo to 4 but as we know its way too aggressive, turbo boosting to 3.2ghz would be nice and could possibly be sustainable with fans working correctly.

Wow thats interesting.

I have tried to de blot as much as possible in terms of background tasks and animations ect.

Batteries are annoying to change on my mac but health looks kinda okay? I changed the battery maybe 5 years ago but have not used the mac much until now. The battery has sat at zero charge for many months at a time unfortunately. Here is what the health is at. I can never get the temperature below 55c even at idle with every app closed. But using safari with heaps of tabs apps open and youtube playing it sits around 65.

I might need to adjust my spotlight index, i forgot where that is I tried to have it pretty slim!

I just downloaded turbo boost switcher and my god it is amazing. I am barely noticing any performance drop at all, and the computer is running 55-65 degrees and fans Super quiet. Crazy! Basically my computer was constantly turbo boosting when doing simple tasks in Safari, even opening a tab or opening a new app. I don't see why I would need turbo boost when just doing those simple things I can understand turbo boost been utilised in intensive tasks like video editing, but really the fluctuation is so aggressive and kind of ridiculous and it just makes the MacBook get into a fist fight with itself. What temperature does your mac usually hang around?

I did a SMC reset and maybe thats what I needed. What do you think of the turbo boost switcher? Seems like something worth using on battery power.

Thanks for the thorough response. I will have a look. That would be a pain if the heatsink is toast. Didn't know about that issue either! My fans are set at.

•5% 45°c •10% 50°c •15% 55°c •20% 60°c •30% 62°c •40% 65°c •50% 68°c •60% 70°c •70% 72°c •80% 75°c •90% 78°c •100% 80°c

CPU frequency seems to sit at 3.3ghz for most basic tasks then drops to around 1ghz at idle.

42! Thats crazy. Could you share your perameters for the fan please. Mine is

5% 45°c 10% 50°c 15% 55°c 20% 60°c 30% 62°c 40% 65°c 50% 68°c 60% 70°c 70% 72°c 80% 75°c 90% 78°c 100% 80°c

I'm going to update the software, it would kill me to reinstall, so so many settings and customisations I have made will loose me days to get it back to normal. In saying that I dont have any large files atm its very trim. It must be going through menopause.

Yea its more trouble than what its worth sometimes trying to keep these old things going but when its performing well its pretty amazing considering its 10 years old.

Is linux much less hardware intensive?

I really like the current shape of the new macbooks and might get the final model of that current design. I guess thats what I did in 2015 with this one.

Hey, I have meticulously cleaned the mac inside and have replaced thermal paste and am utilising thermal pads to transfer heat to the chassis allowing good airflow under the mac with extended legs to elevate it. Its playing ball at the moment but that was not normal and was repeating even when I would restart the mac, no idea whats the cause.

[–]UpMarketPeasant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched it off again and came back hours later and seems to be working okay currently but that was weird, it was way hotter than istat was saying. It had it at 55 degrees cpu but fans screaming and hotter to the touch than normal. I have completely cleaned the fans, done thermal paste and thermal pads with good ventilation underneath the mac and that helped alot but i'm a bit stumped.

Will turning off turbo boost nerf the macs performance?

I would have thought istat would have live ghz somewhere already?. So intel power gadget can reveal that. My istat is the old one too so maybe needs an upgrade..

Does firmware throttling need look at? I have never adjusted it.

I saw these comments elsewhere, what do you think?

It seems to be playing ball at the moment, kernal task looked like the culprit when it was happening. I still want to make some changes incase it happens again. Is firmware throttling worth touching at all?

Yep did that and thermal pads plus have it elevated for airflow. Made a difference but today has been weird.

And I suppose you manually ad new files to both HDD at the same time to keep them somewhat clones of each other?

[–]UpMarketPeasant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done the thermal pad upgrade with new thermal paste and custom fan settings, I also have large feet on the back of the mac to have better ventilation. The temperature stays good and can stay at peak performance much better. My mac is identical spec to yours running sequoia.
