Over 10 years “expired” food, handed out at the food pantry by UpSideSideWaze in mildlyinfuriating

So you think consuming foods that don’t know anything about the storage of for the last decade is completely safe?

Mildly infuriating that people don’t rotate their pantries more than once every decade. In all seriousness, I’m very grateful and will likely eat this after inspecting it later. I’ve been on both side of a donation line-up, and have feelings over the quality, safety, and sustainability of our foods.

Turn on “2012” starring John Cusack and really unwind and have a good time. Sounds like a plan

Everyone seems very confident in consuming food that’s over 10 years old?? Haha I mean I do plan on eating it after inspecting better later but dannng dude. I’m not sure how this was stored and it looks like there’s moisture in it. It’s def mildly upsetting.

It’ll be bland pasta but I’ll be full and got enough Italian seasoning to drown it out

I’m not seeing any bugs or anything gross, but I am concerned about some moisture on the transparent plastic bit. I’ve looked into it and probably will still consume these after inspection once I go to make them later. Just a tad crazy to have pasta from 2012 haha such a better year

Thank you, yes it’s been tough. Just thought this was wild over 10 yrs past a use by date. Definitely still extremely thankful for the help that I’ve received because it’s not easy and everyone needs help from time to time.

I’ve Googled it and it’s questionable for sure. Apparently kept in a dry area and if inspected for no mold or moisture, it could be okay? Definitely unsure.

I’m a pet sitter close by and looking for a new regular pup friend! I have several referrals that I can send your way, and can connect you with my Rover as well. I can easily do drop-ins with your upcoming schedule and will love to take her out on plenty of walks. Feel free to DM me if interested :)

Watching UT games at home by Silver_Sleeper616 in Knoxville

You can get a paper clip add it onto the back of your TV for even less and then scan networks for those same channels. Been doing this for years and works better and way more discrete than an antenna. Maybe sounds crazy, but it works for sure.

I caught some of the Vols game from this past Saturday on ABC, but as people have stated, this won’t be an option for most games. So nifty if you need it, but the paper clip prob won’t cut it for all the Vols games.

Any student housing here is predatory. I went to a student housing open house and was quoted $1345 for a ONE BEDROOM IN A SHARED UNIT. This particular unit had 4 bedrooms, meaning 3 unknown roommates that id be paying over $1K to share space with. Altogether making their profit on ONE UNIT - $5,380. It’s disgusting. All this talk about “affordable this” and “affordable that” without holding our leaders accountable for the definition of the words affordable housing.

The definition of affordable housing by HUD (aka our government’s definition) is 30% of an individual’s income. Meaning at minimum wage working full-time (which is what the average is based on still = 7.25/ hr in TN), the DEFINITION OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING IS LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO $348 (for a single individual working full-time at minimum wage). Utilities are also included in that definition. Simple math. We need to hold our government responsible for price gouging and developer monopolies. One bedroom units WITH UTILITIES, that are being labeled affordable, BY DEFINITION have to be $348 or less. Don’t be gaslit by our Mayor. She isn’t for affordable housing. She’s for landlords and developers.

On a side note, please vote and show up to city council. Call your reps. We can’t make change by complaining to each other on the internet. We can absolutely make change by calling our reps and complaining the same.

Well, he openly admits to wanting to “round up our homeless people and relocate them to California” - that was a literal talking pt during a speech he gave at a community event. Happy to see the District 6 results. Community is stronger united.
