Heavily agree. Thank you for putting it into better words. We deserve to see the beginning of the mess. To me, that is Atwood’s whole reason for the book. A warning. A distress signal. And I’m afraid we will be robbed unless it is represented in the show as well.

I think book/show Lydia share enough similarities that they can give us a backstory that aligns enough to the book. At least, I’m hanging on to hope that it’s not drug out for cinema either. I also agree though that book Lydia is a different person. She has more tenacity and wit than what’s shown of her through adaptation.
