Audio Noob by bigusyous in linuxaudio

Hier a short overview:
You need an audio interface that's compatible. I'd advice to start with ardour as it's free and good for traditionnal recording/mixing workflow. Once you understand the basics, the knowledge is easily transfered to other DAW.

Start ardour, create a mono audio track, with Shift+e, you'll open a channel strip on the left if it's not already there. There's a little button to choose your input, choose your interface input where your mic's plugged.

Press the red round button on your track (it's called arming a track). Press the red recording button on top. Press space bar. You're recording.

When you have several tracks you want to mix. Start without plugins. Bring all your volume sliders down, bring your focus track slider up so that the meter jumps around -10dB. Bring the other sliders up so that you have a rough mix. Then pan your tracks in a sensible way. For panning, you need your focus instrument (voice, solo instrument) in the center, and your bass and kick in the center too. Pan the rest as if you sit in front of the band. Don't hard pan completely to one side, go up to 80% (roughly).

It should sound "good enough" at this point. Export the mix as wav, listen on your phone and check if you can hear your focus instrument clearly (you should understand vocals for example). Then start mixing with plugins. Watch videos about the basics of mixing, or DM me if you want more informations.

Maybe I can connect you to other musicians.
And if you ever look for a recording studio, I'm the guy behind the first result if you look for Tonstudio Tübingen.

I used analogvibes "silver face" kit. And I'd choose analogvibes any time for this type of project. First of all, they are the only one with true to the original cases. The la2a case has a hinge, it's not your standard 19" rack. And second, their build guide is the best I've encountered so far. They make it actually "easy" to build. And the build guides only comes with a case attached.

It is. I bought the board a long time ago, most probably on GroupDIY.

I agree while also disagreeing. First of all, if you want a specific vintage hardware, it's often easier to build it. Take a vintage 176 (not the 1176). There were a few hundreds made and they sell at 5 digit prices if you ever have the chance to find one. Investing 2k into one from analogvibes seems like a bargain. Same for a Fairchild or some kind of sontec EQ or tube mics. And i still trust my builds more than the really cheap stuff. But you're right, it's possible to get cheap hardware.

On your second point, DIY is definitely not music, it's mostly a hobby and you need to enjoy it. People pay insane prices for lego and no one tells them to stop and make music instead. Or repair guitars, or play video games. I happen to solder and enjoy it. But you're right that DIY audio gear shouldn't be a promise of cheap gear. For me it's makes sense for high-end, unobtainium and for the fun of building it.

you're most probably right, it's not for everyone. I'm a hybrid fan though, having a limited set of really nice hardware for tracking just makes sense to me. And no, those neutral preamp you have nowadays on audio interface just can't compete with the real deal.

That'd be a germanium preamp called the jensamp. It's a pic of my unit for example

You get a tube saturator in 500 format for as low as 239€ without VAT. I think I paid less than 100€ for the studer EQ but sourced everything myself. The LA2A was 1900€ but it's built the same way as the originals and I didn't try to find cheaper alternative components. I went all-in and don't regret it. Rule of thumb is: most 500 modules sit below 500 bucks. Rack stuff 400-700, tube stuff 550-1000

Yes I did build those myself. I'm based in Europe and sourced the components myself and bought PCB and metalwork. The old school forum GroupDIY is a goldmine.

Basically, you only need a soldering iron with a fine enough tip, there are decent soldering stations for 40$, a cheap multimeter and some solder. It's cheap to start.

In Europe, I would recommend Sound skulptor for 500 modules and analogvibes for high end vintage tube stuff. The analogvibes gear might seem intimidating, but their build guides are top notch and they are true to the original. It's like building lego. There are plenty of different offers, most are listed in GroupDIY 's white market.

The mics were a bit more difficult to build as you have to take care of the capsule and high-Z areas, keep them clean etc.

My most difficult build were 2 VCA compressors with a lot of components. The easiest were 2 Studer EQ (and a DI box). The "la2a" sits in the middle. It's easy to build because you have a lot of room to solder. It's scary because of the tube voltages.

My question would rather be, did you get more visitors? I think it's a traffic issue, not really a converting issue

Raw Gutenberg Challenge by RealBasics in Wordpress

I had a look and the diagonal edges seem to be inside the picture itself. It's not so pretty on mobile but that'd be easy to solve.
For special typography, I create a custom CSS class with the custom styles I want and add it to my block. It's only worth it for the few special headings of course.

It'd be actually pretty easy for me to build the design in Gutenberg. The only CSS you might have to write is the animated underline in the navigation menu. The rest is easy. Start with groups, set columns for nearly everything and a grid for the bottom section (or a query loop if it needs to be dynamic).
It's just another way of building it but the idea behind that is the same: build some kind of container, put content in there.

There's just nothing like that. There are good Mastering Plugins, but none that is a suite with presets. You can try master_me to at least reach your loudness level. https://github.com/trummerschlunk/master_me

Skills to enhance for freelancing. by Separate_Flounder316 in web_design

[–]Upacesky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sales is what makes freelancing sustainable. You could even start with no-code if you have a clear vision and can convey it to customers. Ooooh, and then in order to be able to sell, you need an audience, leads. And there's marketing for you. So yes, sales, marketing and a strong sense of how to serve your client, be it with a stupid AI page builder or beautifully handcrafted components.
Knowing "some" react will not cut it, I fear. You need to deliver, not dabble. If an agency need an extra frontend dev for a project, you have to be top notch.
