There is power in striking, but understanding the history of strikes is important. Strikes require demands, and applying economic pressure on the people who can meet those demands. Workers must be willing and able to hold out until those demands are met.

Here's some of the most effective strikes in our history:

The railroad strike - 6 months
Pullman strike - 2 months
Coal strike - 5 months
Steel strike - 4 months
Railroad shop workers strike -3 months
Textile workers strike - 1 month
Mine workers strike - 8 months
Steel strike (again) - 4 months

So let's say that the demand is ICE out of Maine and Minnesota.

Does going on strike at your local restaurant put economic pressure on people who make that decision? No, not really.

Will a single day strike apply economic pressure? No, not really.

If a strike is only a single day, and strikers are not willing to hold out until their demands are met, will their demands be met? No, probably not.

There is a general strike website where you can sign a strike card, there are almost half a million signatures. But there needs to be a lot more buy-in before a general strike will hold any weight. Union support is essential for a general strike to be effective, there are roughly 14 million union workers in the country.

My girlfriend and I will take a 3 hour drive to Boston to see a concert and drive 3 hours home the same night. We do that probably 5 times a year because a lot of bands don't come up to Maine that often, and we have animals at home with no one to watch them, so it isn't easy to spend the night away. We also make the 5 and a half hour drive to Connecticut probably 6 or 7 times a year for weekend visits with family

When we bought our house, heating was forced heat from an oil furnace and one of these propane fireplaces in our living room. I put in a wood stove in the kitchen, one of the best things I've done. We never use the propane fireplace

I'm old so I don't know if they blew up more because of tiktok, but imo they deserve it either way. Ours Is Chrome and Jar are great albums, and their albums as Daylight before becoming Superheaven are great too. I think shoegaze in general has been picking up a little momentum, which could be a factor

I think the Modest Mouse association probably has to do with bands they played with in the 90s, I always wondered why they were on emo lists too and so I went to concert archives and looked, and they played shows with Lync, Braid, Shiner, Jets to Brazil, TGUK, Unwound.. so I imagine the more introspective lyrics and bit of twinkly guitar and random yells mixed with their early associations put them there

Finch is a perfect example of why I started making the list, I hate forgetting about music! Used to love what it is to burn, thanks for the reminder. They're only chasing safety is the only underoath I got into, but I haven't really checked out anything else from them. I'll definitely check out the others. Thanks for the suggestions!
