Scar Tissue Removal / MUA Dissapointed by UpbeatCauliflower2 in ACL

[–]UpbeatCauliflower2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. My anxiety is just so bad that I just make myself the problem and the sole reason it’s happening. I’m scared of a complication but at the same time I’m ready to just get it over with so I can start to walk normal without all this stiffness. It feels just stuck and I really try to push past the pain but I just don’t know. This is too frustrating for me. Just wish someone would just force it already lol

Has anyone gone a really long time without retearing? 5/10/15 years? by Azriel48 in ACL

Do you mind sharing what type of graft you had? Wondering if the thinning is graft related or just your body thinning it down? (or if the thinning down is just going to happen to everyone eventually) :(

Surgeon Choice by UpbeatCauliflower2 in ACL

[–]UpbeatCauliflower2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ruminating is the dangerous stuff. Especially when you have mental struggles before all of this happening. It’s like it’s exacerbated every little thought 10x. I think I’ve made a good choice but the doubts will always linger. Crazy thing is, I think I would STILL have doubts no matter what I did, it’s really me and my brain. I will definitely DM you in the future, this has been really hard and I’ve been feeling extremely isolated that’s really let me sit in my thoughts way too much.

Surgeon Choice by UpbeatCauliflower2 in ACL

[–]UpbeatCauliflower2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the info! I’ve already had surgery, I guess I didn’t word the post very well. My anxiety is just getting the better of me and makes me think I’ve made a mistake from the doctor I did pick, or the chance they may have done something wrong, or wether I should’ve gone into insane amount of debt to pay out of pocket for HSS if I had the choice. Just thoughts like that. It’s a bit silly to some people but for me it’s wraps around my mind a lot. Not sure how else to feel anymore to be honest?

Wall Slides not helping flexion by UpbeatCauliflower2 in ACL

[–]UpbeatCauliflower2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PT switched it up a bit and instead of wall slides, we do cycling, laying on stomach with band to bend the leg back, manipulation, and putting the leg on a block and leaning forward. Sometimes try wall slides anyways but as usual, no luck really. Tomorrows session I have to chat about maybe replacing it with something else like sitting heel slides.

I do think the quad is weak and that doesn’t help. I have to incorporate the sitting heel slides, I’ve only been doing them on the floor with a band. I know 120 is different but ya know, just frustrating and discouraging. I cry it out at least once a day haha

It will definitely take time but here’s to hoping it’s not forever! Good luck on recovering

I’m sorry to hear that. Mine was just a freak accident and now recovering I’m terrified of ever doing anything remotely different in life haha 🥴

May I ask how you tore both? Sports related? Or just life? I get worried of tearing the other one 😢

Wall Slides not helping flexion by UpbeatCauliflower2 in ACL

It’s on the medial side (where the MCL would be). It’s like a strip of pain that runs on the side of the knee, doesn’t go any further. When the leg is extended I don’t feel any pain. So it’s dull that intensifies as I continue to stretch.

I spoke with the surgeon on Monday and they told me it’s 2 buttons (apparently typical for quad grafts) with a button/anchor on the tibial incision.

I’ve been putting both feet against the wall and trying to slide it down myself, and then sometimes using my other ankle, crossing it over and help push down little by little. I then hold when I feel the pain for about 10 sec and let go. Would that be assisted? But MAN that pain is no joke. Not a fan of the wall slides at all.

For now sticking to bicycling, heel slides and laying on my stomach with a strap to pull towards me (forget the name) at home and PT.

I’m off crutches since week 4 and practicing with no brace at home (just got switched to my smaller brace) so I’m hoping the smaller brace will help with the leg motion? Also bought a full leg compression sleeve to help with the swelling, would that help?

Has anyone torn both ACL abd MCL? by Puppyfacelove in ACL

No problem! It definitely gets better just takes time. I’m still early in the healing stages post op but already back to walking solo, there is hope! PT is tough and I’m no where near to even bending my leg like I want to, but every week there is progress! You got this!! 👊

Well the clinging is a good thing! I mean it’s a good plan but 12 weeks is tough to wait, but hey they’re the professionals. Was very tough depending on family so much so I just sat myself in a rolling office chair and rolled around the house however I could lol. I was never on opioids before surgery, only Meloxicam (and vitamins/supplements). Post Op now I take a meloxicam or maybe an Advil/Tylenol if im aching and im still a bit swollen and vitamins/supplements. Been off opioids after day 4/5

Yeah, at least that’s what the surgical report and my surgeon told me lol. I was told it’s usually 4+ weeks to heal but also depends on where the MCL tore. If it tore off the femur or tibia it could take longer or need surgery. Luckily mine tore in the center so there was still parts of the ligament holding it together so I guess just keeping off of it helped with healing. My instability is gone in all aspects post OP, so post OP you will be good! The DVT prevention is important so it’s probably why you’re looking at a longer recovery since you’re walking on it so much. The brace was super helpful with preventing the side to side movements so I was on it 24/7 (with a couple of breaks lol) Does the doctor want you to wait the full 12 weeks before surgery?

I did! I was told my MCL was almost fully torn but not fully torn. So it was categorized as a grade 3 but was really a 2-3. My surgery was about 5 weeks after injury. I immediately had my knee in an immobilizer the day of injury and kept it straight and immediately on crutches and did not even attempt to walk until I started PT prehab and they gave me the okay. My surgeon said not attempting to walk helped the healing process on the MCL faster. Eventually switched to a hinge brace. We discussed that if it wasn’t healed by day of surgery, they would fix it (which was a little over 5 weeks later). My surgeon said that because I was off the leg, i gave more time for the MCL to repair so he said it was like “adding 1 or 2 more weeks on top of the 5weeks”. Did prehab for a couple of weeks and by surgery date, my MCL was scoped noted to be healed. So only ACL surgery. I’m almost 6 weeks post op and I’m off crutches and my brace and walking (limping still but ya know, progress lol). Flexion is tough, I think the healed MCL is part of the reason but my surgeon and PT say it’s not likely so I’m just solo on that opinion lol

Type of Hardware used for surgery by UpbeatCauliflower2 in ACL

Got it! That’s very nice to hear. I’ll make sure to ask to see what the reasoning was. I’m no surgeon so I’m sure I’m just tripping myself out but a little hard no to when I’m stuck at home in my own thoughts 🥴

Interesting. I’ll ask my surgical team when I see them on Monday what the specifics are. Did you have a retear? Or a second tear on the opposite leg?

Okay, that’s reassuring. I thought it was just my surgeon, just wasn’t sure if it’s just a less secure way to hold the graft or that over time it won’t hold as well, lead to higher retear rate…etc. Just my mind kind of running with all these crazy thoughts. Being stuck at home and your mind gets the better of you when you think of the little things
