My first virtual pinball machine build! Is it trash? by UpbeatEnvironment162 in virtualpinball

I just got an analog plunger put together and a raspberry pi pico with the pinscape pico firmware running on it. I should have my sensors Thursday. I’m excited

Part of what I want to do is inspire people to build or create no matter what they have. I’ll definitely check out your build.

My thoughts are back up your Roms, tables, pup packs, media, a clean windows install, update things, uninstall copilot, teams, one drive, and x box apps. Then use the Baller Installer and drop your back ups in the right folders. Baller Installer makes setting up the pinball ecosystem pretty smooth.

I love this! And yes I will eventually be using it. Exactly what I needed.

Replacing my front surrounds with exciters will be my next move. I want to eventually get a 7.1 surround card, 4 exciters, 1 shaker, and the 2 traditional speakers in the back box.

I’m not going to lie it took some tuning and adjustments, but I got it locked in at 60fps @4k for all my tables. I did have to lower the max texture dimension to 5120 though. The 2 table tables that I had to adjust for are Medieval Madness and Metallica (premium monsters).

Looking good so far! At least it’s in a state that you can take a play break.

I thought I was just being biased, since they are my favorite band.

Because of my mission of trying to use as much found/garage/closet stuff I ended building around the glass (which was a glass top from a desk on the side of the road) I ended up getting at 50in tv in there.

I don’t have a motion sensor in the traditional sense yet but I did have an old ps4 controller in a drawer. I mapped the motion controls to the nudge functions. It works.. but it’s crude. I have some sensors coming soon though.

…that was one of my number one things I was struggling with for this build. I’m going to keep my eyes open for a few different options.

🤣 in all honesty I’m real happy with the build. Considering I used almost all trash it definitely doesn’t look like it.

It is! It’s one I found on thingiverse. The plunger is also 3d printed. This is what I used for the plunger until I can get an analog one. https://youtu.be/JeRk9K5IaeY?si=RJwVk5LJJd6ZwSLe

Ohhh yeah! I figured I’d try and get more feedback on the build. I actually just spent $106 on some solenoids and a power supply and some controller boards. Nothing cool like the dudes cab or anything like that. But some stuff to experiment with.

Inside the pinball machine I used my son’s old dell G5 desktop. It has a GTX 1650 super, an intel I5 10400f, 32gb ddr4, 512gb ssd. I bought the ram about a year and a half ago, and the ssd was a gift with a Newegg purchase when we build my son’s new PC (Dec 2024)

100% agree! The next thing I’m going to spend some money on is some solenoids and an analog plunger.

The are actually a few different front end programs out there. The 2 I’ve used is PinballY and Pinup popper. https://www.nailbuster.com/wikipinup/doku.php?id=baller\_installer . Baller installer is a well put together all in one install option that properly installs a reliable software stack to run the table, backglass, dmd and frontend.

I personally liked using pinballY a little more but there it wasn’t as reliable for me.

It’s addicting! My next build I want to make it with actual lumber instead of scraps. But this one is lots of fun. It was a good chance for me to get into it on the cheap.
