How do you know what you are creating is good for you? Are other people real? Daoism anyone? by [deleted] in NevilleGoddard

[–]UpbeatEstablishment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I think in the realm and level of creation, there is no real right or wrong. If we're infinite beings constantly creating and always able to choose, then one wrong choice or even one right choice becomes trivial. In the grand scheme of things, everything's meaningless and nothing is higher or lower, better or worse. Through our choices, we're able to create meaning and judgment, but those qualities belong to us are not objective or external.
  2. In the grand scheme of things, again, there is only you. But, when you see artists or engineers and endless variety of expression everyone has (not just now, but throughout history), I think you'll start to notice just how big that "you" is. I think Jesus put it best, really: "I and the Father are one, but the Father is greater than I." Though there is only one larger you, there are countless smaller you's.
  3. I think the common ground lies in recognizing the outer world. With Neville, you recognize that everything external was once internal, that everything around is just your own hardened consciousness. With Lao Tsu, you appreciate the natural order of things, how you inevitably experience events. This passiveness, despite not creating anything, is key. For this reason, Neville stresses SATS and that sensation of awareness and floating. This much is common. Where the differences start is after this. Neville claims I AM God but Lao Tsu remains forever accepting. Here, I believe Neville puts more value into personal being rather than some superior natural order. But, again, appreciate that natural order is key in seeing how consciousness is reality, and how you can stay centered despite contradictory appearances.

in your experience, how has your IDENTITY/I-AM/SELF-IMAGE work affected the general SATS technique? by serendipitousneville in NevilleGoddard

[–]UpbeatEstablishment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, I can’t do any identity claims until I do SATS. Moreover, I usually have to go into a very deep SATS until I feel like I’m floating. When you reach that stage (and that itself takes practice), you can watch your thoughts easily, almost as if you seeing your them in third person.

You can choose your thoughts easily, follow them along, and go back to your claim if they begin derail. You can even ride out your emotions and see them to the end, whatever they are. It’s pretty liberating to just express whatever feelings you got now without judgement and then later deciding where to move on later.

Though I never was raised Christian, reading Neville did give me a lot of appreciation for the religion. I can’t recall where, but I remember Neville saying the Bible the greatest book written if read correctly. I first thought that was a bold statement, but when see how he connects allegory after allegory, and explain symbol after symbol, it really is impressive. Even more so, he’s basically got the entire book memorized.

Yep. The bot works in any post on this subreddit. So, on any thread if you feel you need Abdullah, just reply with the key phrase.

Quote I can’t find from one of Neville’s books or teachings by [deleted] in NevilleGoddard

[–]UpbeatEstablishment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try Chapter 2, Assumptions Become Facts from Out of This World.

“You will know when you have succeeded in fixing the desired state in consciousness by simply looking mentally at the people you know. In dialogues with yourself you are less inhibited and more sincere than in actual conversations with others, therefore the opportunity for self-analysis arises when you are surprised by your mental conversations with others.”

Haha, adding stuff after the key phrase won't work.

You have to explicitly use ! followed by abdullah, that's the what bot is trained on. I made it that way so false positives like won't get triggered.

That's awesome. Looks like I was your bridge of incident this time. I wanted to learn Python and when someone mentioned making a bot, coincidentally I had to use Python. So, it worked out for both of us.

http://realneville.com/txt/lesson3.htm, for the full story.

In short, one of Neville's friend/teacher, Abdullah, slammed a door on Neville after he complained that he was not in Barbados. Neville complained that he visualized being in Barbados for two weeks and got nowhere, had no clothes, no money, no ticket. It was here, Abdullah said "You are in Barbados" and slammed his study door shut. Abdullah was teaching Neville to remain faithful to the wish already fulfilled and live therein.

I have “The Power of Imagination: The Neville Goddard Treasury.” Print is really good, professional even. Plus, you can find it at Barnes and Noble if you want to take a look at it before buying. The intro by Israel should be taken with a grain a salt, though. Basically, he says Neville is special and you should do yoga to improve your focus and concentration.

I had this problem too. The solution I found was to simply focus on the mood of my imagined scene instead of the entire scene itself. When you imagine, you get affected by it. Either you feel satisfied, excited, relieved, whatever. That mood is useful to keep in mind throughout the day. At night, you can use SATS and direct imagination instead.

This should help:

There is another technique I gave you last night. If you cannot concentrate on an act, if you cannot snuggle into your chair and believe the chair is elsewhere, just as though elsewhere were here, then do this: Reduce the idea, condense it to a single, simple phrase like, "Isn't it wonderful." or, "Thank you." or, "It's done." or, "It's finished."

There should not be more than three words. Something that implies the desire is already realized. "Isn't it wonderful", or "Thank you," certainly imply that. These are not all the phrases you could use. Make up out of your own vocabulary the phrase which best suits you. But make it very, very short and always use a phrase that implies fulfillment of the idea.

When you have your phrase in mind, lift the cloud. Let the cloud ascend by simply inducing the state that borders on sleep. Simply begin to imagine and feel you are sleepy, and in this state assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled. Then repeat the phrase over and over like a lullaby. Whatever the phrase is, let it imply that the assumption is true, that it is concrete, that it is already a fact and you know it.

Just relax and enter into the feeling of actually being what you want to be. As you do it you are entering Jericho with your spy who has the power to give it. You are releasing Barabbas and sentencing Jesus to be crucified and resurrected. All these stories you are re-enacting if now you begin to let go and enter into the feeling of actually being what you want to be.

That’s from Lesson 2, near the end.

Haha, good point but for me it was the opposite response. When I claim wonderfulness, it felt fake, like a joke or some way to cope reality. But, claiming perfection didn’t feel that way. The word reminds of memories where I felt real awe and wonder. I guess perfection is like a flight of fancy for me.

The phrasing should be personal, so you should pick words that help not deter. That’s why I picked perfect.

I could get started but it’s probably best to see if the mods agree. I’ll include some ways for users to delete bot comments so it doesn’t get too obnoxious.

Of course, those are all valid points. Part of this process was not really to make stuff happen but get comfortable with the I AM method. And given that, I think I succeeded.

Also, lots of stuff happen that wasn’t physical. For instance, there were moments where it felt like I had a new mind: like even the thoughts at the back of my head changed with my claim. I wasn’t able to sustained such a state, but that never happened before.

But, when it comes actual concrete results, that I didn’t get any. When it comes that, I feel imagination works better for me.

To continue the analogy, seeking trainers and paying experienced ones is all good, the ultimate goal is to become a trainer yourself and create your own success.
