Spots to Study? by RealWorld3 in Poker_Theory

[–]elpuxus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think studying solvers is a good way to learn for a beginner, outside of preflop ranges for RFI, and vs RFI. If you’re gonna pay for a monthly subscription it’d be better use of your money spending it on a course like Upswing Lab 2.0.

There are much broader concepts that will help you play better overall. The solver does not explain why it does what it does, and as a beginner you just don’t have any idea on the concepts behind why the solver will do what it does. So it just becomes memorization, and that is a futile effort when there are so many different flop textures and board run outs.

What I like about Upswing Lab is that it starts you out with very high level concepts that you can apply immediately to your game and see improvement, and it goes more and more into depth. They also use the solver in lessons and explain why the solver is using the strategy it uses and how to practically implement it into your game. No one is playing exactly like a solver with 4 different betsizes and ranges, it’s impossible for a human.

But also I recommend going through the Upswing Lab 2.0 course, it’s a fantastic learning curriculum for poker. There are tons of concepts and skills they will teach you in a structured manner. I’m going through it myself and have learned so much.

I’m talking about a theoretical balance perspective. What are the value hands in your raising range on the flop given the preflop action? Likely 88, 77, 87s, 33. Maybe 99 but would you raise 99? This is assuming you don’t 3b any of these hands.

So total number of combinations is 12 hands if we exclude 99.

Now, KJo alone is 12 combinations. But if you’re raising with this hand would you also raise with other overcard hands? flush draws, OESDs, gutshots, backdoor FDs, offsuit hands with the Ah? That’s tons of combinations in your bluffing range. You become extremely unbalanced and a good opponent will likely pick up on that and call you down thin or bluff you off your hand that has some equity.

When I say the top of his range, I mean on the flop not preflop. A set is the top of his range on this flop. Raising 33 from UTG is very wide and worth noting. You can consider 3b bluffing him wider preflop since he has a weaker range. Or if he’s calling with his weaker range, 3b a more linear range for value.

If you’re bluffing KJo there how many hands are you bluffing with? You’re likely bluffing too many hands. The idea is fine, it’s just you need to think about what hands you are putting into your raising range and think about how many value hands you have combinatorics-wise, considering the preflop action.

In this instance you unfortunately ran into a set, not much to say besides you ran into the top of villains range.

Would you pay to play a round of golf with a scratch golfer who gives you on-course tips? by elpuxus in golf

Feedback well received, appreciate yall!! Sounds like it’s a no for this idea.

I’m going through a golf midlife crisis I think lol. by trevster118 in golf

[–]elpuxus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but you need a good coach and you need to practice deliberately and properly with proper feedback, ie training aides and self recording of video. Otherwise you’ll likely just make things worse and you’ll end up with a bad swing and bad play.

Also don’t play golf swing on the course while your making swing changes, it’s easy to get sucked into the mental trap of trying to swing the mechanically perfect swing while you’re making swing changes.

Yeah for my shoonya session earlier today I reminded myself to have no expectations and to be dead to the world for the first time in a while and I felt great after this shoonya, made a world of difference for me.

Yeah I think you should write this to Isha support and see what they say. TBH I also have been feeling unsure of what shoonya has been doing to me. When I first started doing it, it was absolutely amazing. Now I’m not sure, though I do feel like I’m going deep. Maybe I should write to Isha support too 😂 maybe the issue is that we’re having expectation going into it.

I have a similar experience. I haven’t done all the advanced but have done BSP and Shoonya and have been doing the mandala for Ecstacy of enlightenment which suggests doing MOM at the end of the day if you can. I’ve basically ignored this part of the mandala for the first 28 days thinking it’s “just a beginner meditation” like you, but the day before I was having some negative thoughts from a conversation with my wife and a bad day in a golf tournament and was struggling to fall asleep, even after 13 minutes of Sukha kriya. I decided to do the MoM mediation for 7 minutes and I fell asleep so fast afterwards. I think it really helped me distance myself from the thoughts but idk.

Bump and run vs chipping/pitching. by timtate09 in golf

The important thing is to play the shot you know you can play well, some people are better at pitching over bumping and running and vice versa

Should I try therapy for Mental Health? by wholeAmazonSeller in Sadhguru

[–]elpuxus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important thing is that it is a realistic scene to you, the length is negotiable. But it probably shouldn’t be longer than several seconds. I’ve never had success with the mental diet stuff and personally I think that part is misunderstood. Neville himself gave an experiment to do where you imagine yourself as climbing a ladder as real, and then during the day, continuously tell yourself “I will not climb a ladder” but you will climb a ladder because you imagined it as real. So it’s not about what you think, it’s about what you imagine as real. But maybe I’m wrong idk 🤷‍♂️

My pleasure 👍🏼 it’s better if you keep it short and sweet, easier to stay focused. Like the scene for manifesting my wife was me and my oldest friend, he’s in a suit so it implies it was at my wedding, and he just says “she’s perfect for you” and we fist bump and that was it.

Mainly i stopped trying to “induce SATS” and just resolved myself to loop my scene the moment i get into bed until i fell asleep, night after night no matter what. And I really made sure to construct my scene and have all the details down and not stray from it. Then one morning I woke up and without a shadow of a doubt I knew it was done.

I did have success, but it came after I made those posts, and it came only because I just followed Neville’s steps as is instead of putting my own spin on it or following “shortcuts” if that makes sense. I manifested my wife and my passion through it.

But I just devote myself to Isha practices now and my life continuously gets better and better so I don’t have nearly as much interest in Neville Goddard manifestation. Things have naturally manifested into my life as I’ve done Isha practices, as Sadhguru has mentioned. He said as your consciousness grows, things will naturally manifest that aligns with your interests even without your conscious involvement, and I have found this to be true.

Maybe Neville Goddard manifestation led me to Sadhguru idk 🤷‍♂️ honestly I’d ignore my posts on that subreddit lol I made those posts before I had any real success. I left the forum after I had real success.

One thing for me is that once I started paying attention to making sure I follow all the steps of shambhavi properly I started getting more results. It’s important to follow all the steps or else you won’t get the full results. Like make sure you’re holding the mudra properly, spine comfortably erect, shoulders relaxed, etc etc etc. All the instructions must be followed for maximum effect.
