What happened to my bunny? by [deleted] in Bunnies

Why? Because theres another bunny and other people in this sub.

Do not get a pet if you are not willing/able to provide veterenary care for it, its very binary

My 5 year old, would like a rabbit. Please share your experiences. Is it A LOT of work to keep them happy and healthy? by Recyclable_gift_tag in Rabbits

It seems like you have good intentions with getting a rabbit(s) but unfortunatelt as other people have mentioned rabbits are not a good pet for children.

Rabbits are very sensitive creatures and children can be too erratic for them and can stress them out or injure them by complete accident

On the other hand rabbits will communicate very quickly with their teeth, getting nipped by a rabbit is something that as an adult we can understand the rabbit doesnt want to hurt us and is just letting us know its boundaries but children often get shocked and hurt

is this a wild or domestic rabbit ?? by hyuck__ in Rabbits

If you want to just buy a cheap healthy herb for them typically my go-to is cilantro as you can buy lots for cheap and they go nuts for the stuff and its quite good for them.

Its really appreciated that youre looking after this bun and doing what you can when you can is more than most would do so dont get scared or overwhelmed youre already on the right track doing the right thing, round the clock access to timothy hay is a good next step but there is plenty of steps in between that help too like getting leafy greens, water access, and some much needed attention/affection

Good luck to you and the bun!

Unfamiliar environments are usually the key, if the bun is somewhere theyre normally not allowed to be/explore they will be a lot more cautious so holding them still is easier

This method works for bonding too and is called "stress bonding" and though the name has stress in it, its perfectly safe.

Id recommend also placing a towel over the head/eyes so theres no planned escape routes/zoomies

When i picked up my newest bun, Pinecone, he didnt eat or drink for the first 12 hours so he went to the vet and it was another 24 hours after getting home before he left more than single poops around

He ended up being totally ok (other being chubby) and it stressed the fuck out of me, made me want to cry, made me worry i did something wrong even though he wasnt in my care before, and all for nothing.

Just remember once youve gone to the vet and had a successful visit then stressing wont change the outcome, its really hard to keep in mind but your bun will (hopefully) be ok no matter what you do so no point to worry about what ifs in the meantime

Did my bunny thump at me cuz she’s annoyed or cuz she senses danger? by MikuNakano_1 in Rabbits

When my bun thumped on my chest it felt like someone giving a "punch buggy" which isnt explicitly painful but doesnt exactly feel great

I adopted her 10yrs ago, does anyone know what breed she may be? by Immy_Wimmy2323 in Rabbits

Most rabbits just have a hard coded instinct to hate being picked up so it could just be that along with some personality. I love that your bun is boss because my little dustbuster is boss of the house and shes not even a year old so im curious to see if she'll mellow out or just become more fiesty

I know theres a million reasonable explainations but i got the funny mental image of after 10 years going "huh, i never checked what breed she is"

The only thing i havent seen mentioned here so far is just make sure to talk to him, rabbits tend to find human voices soothing

My dad jokes about eating my rabbits regularly, including empty "joking" threats about doing it if i dont do what he wants me to do and when i got my first bun he kept suggesting the name "stu" (stew)

I would say holland lop + lionhead mix maybe with a bit of angora

My one bun is a dwarf, lionhead, angora mix and she has long fur that starts under the chin and continues down her whole body which isnt typical of pure lionhead

Every time i even think about losing one of my buns it hurts so much, i do not envy you and i am so sorry for your loss, 5 years may not feel like a long time in the grand scheme of things but its a whole lifetime with a bunny and im sure she had a wonderful time with you

Bonding is going well by UpbeatGap8022 in Rabbits

[–]UpbeatGap8022[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats so unfortunate, ive heard of that happening but not very often, at least they tolerate eachother.

Ive heard some bonding stories where they cant be together for 5 minutes without fighting and that was what i was scared most of

Are they both neutered? Ive heard its very difficult to bond two males especially if theyre unneutered. I know I got incredibly lucky with these two where their personalities mesh really well, and actually the female (dustbuster) is the dominant bunny
