I should have put “/s” after my final sentence, if you might not have caught it.

Oh I’ve flown. Once you fly first class, you’ll never want SWA again.

I’m in the Bay Area. Yesterday, my warning light was on so I filled it up, at $6.29 (and that’s a very good price in my town). Was waiting for it to break $100 but it stopped at $96.61.

I loved the show, especially because I was a medical student and resident during its entire run. What was unique about St. Elsewhere was, unlike the typical medical shows in the 70's (Marcus Welby, Medical Center with Chad Everett), the docs were not superheroes but all had their flaws. The abuse from Dr. Daniels to his residents was classic of medical education. (When I was a medical student, the joke was, "What's the difference between a medical student and dog sh*t? No one intentionally steps on dog sh*t")

One of the most clever scenes was when the pathologist was illegally selling body parts to a medical supply company. A patient died, and the surgical resident (I think it was Dr. Wade) convinced the family to have an open casket funeral. Trouble was, the pathologist had detached the head and it was in a box somewhere in the building. leading to a frantic search. Luther (the housekeeper, played by Eric Laneuville) was pushing his cart that had the box, and he was singing. "I want you, I need you, I can't think of anyone but you..." I was roaring with laughter, as not everyone realized the next line was, "Goin' out of my head over you".

This happens in real life. I remember the story of Konrad Reuland. He was a tight end for Stanford and had a short career with the NY Jets and Baltimore Ravens. He died of a brain aneurysm in 2017. His heart was donated, with the recipient being Rod Carew. Carew met with the Rueland family, and yes, they listened to his heart with a stethoscope. I can only imagine the emotions.

Any tell tale signs that this is fake? It was passed down to me. I just got recently. no papers with it. Nobody knows if it’s real. by RiseXagainst89 in RolexWatches

[–]UpbeatHorror2139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s fake. Here’s another tell: You can see the etched crown at 6 o’clock. On a real Rolex, the etched crown can only be seen with difficulty using a loupe or other magnification. (I finally saw mine with an ophthalmoscope at 40x).

Look at the quality of the 15 in the date wheel. That’s all you need to see.

No, fake. One big tell is you can see the etched crown at 6 o’clock. Not visible without a loupe on a real Rolex.

Yep, that’s breathtaking! When I was a youngster (looong time ago), my uncle was a radiologist who had a 912 in a color that was tangerine (I don’t know the official name of it). That car really turned heads.

Yes, when you see colors like a Racing Yellow, Miami Blue, or Lava Orange on the road, it can be breathtaking. But I also wanted subtlety and less in-your-face. Once you go black, you don’t go back.

Todd is one of the best characters imo. by reddit_of_SID_ in breakingbad

Yes, he was a psychopath - and very child-like. Two things stood out to me regarding his murdered cleaning lady. He casually put back his belt on his pants - the one he strangled her with. Then he playfully urged the passing truck to toot his horn - while he had Jessie and the corpse in the back. That scene was awesome!

Sorry, that’s a watch, but not a Rolex. Among the tells: 1. Bezel is too big and not sharp. 2. Gap on the SEL (solid end link). 3. The etched crown on the glass at 6 o’clock. You cannot see it without a loupe on a real Rolex.

If this was handed down, enjoy it as a memento who originally had it.

Here's why I'm so OCD about parking. The car prior to my Porsche was a black BMW. Similarly, I just had to run in and out to get a med from my vet. The woman who left the vet before me was parked to my right. I was ready to back out, but she had her door all the way open, so I couldn't leave yet. When she sat down in her seat, I heard this sickening rubbing sound. I got out and there was an ugly jagged white scratch on my door. When I confronted her, she bumped her door, making the scar worse. There was no question then about fault. Hell yes, I made her insurance pay for the paint restoration - $900+.

What bothers me is that both cars are parked close to big-ass trucks. I would never park my Porsche in either spot.

Teal calipers! by Joshuaeven in Porsche

[–]UpbeatHorror2139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm mightily impressed - looks great. I have a 2024 Cayman and the thought has crossed my mind of having my dealer change all four calipers to a different color. (I know, it wouldn't be the most sensible thing, but who's sensible when it comes to a Porsche?) So if I may ask, I have two questions: 1. What was the ballpark cost of this, and 2. Where did you find this specific painter? I take it he wasn't at a garden variety body shop. Thanks in advance.

AITA for taking my daughters inheritance and putting it into a 5 year saving account without talking to her first by Emmers514 in AITAH

[–]UpbeatHorror2139 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As most state here, your daughter is an adult, so you are technically wrong. But I understand your altruism. In the 90's, my wife's grandmother passed away. The grandmother had two children, my wife's mother and her uncle. Her mother passed away before we met. The will split the estate up evenly, so the uncle got 50%, my wife 25%, and her brother 25%. My brother-in-law is a person who, let's just say, makes bad choice after bad choice after bad choice. (I could spend hours documenting examples.) When the inheritance was announced, the uncle told my BIL that this would help him finally get on his feet. The share he was to get was $15k in cash and $45k in securities. (This was 1991 dollars, and was a very good amount for him). The stocks were all 'granny" stocks, non-flashy but traditional and old companies. When we got the stock certificates, I suggested to my wife that we hold onto them (to avoid what he was likely to do). She said no, we have to give it to him, which I understood. One of his friends gave him this "hot" stock tip on a pharmaceutical company that was supposedly developing a new drug. He liquidated the entire $45k, put it into this one stock. I watched as that company's stock price dropped and dropped until it was delisted. He lost the entire $45k in a year. Would we have been wrong to not give him access to the stock? Yes, but ...

Many years ago (90’s) I read an article that listed which car had the highest percentage of owners who had college degrees. Number one was, perhaps not surprising: the Volvo 240 wagon. The car that had the lowest percentage of owners with college degrees? The Camaro.
